Ultimately, because recovery is a personal
and unique process, everyone with a psychiatric illness (Or Substance Abuse Addiction) develops his or her own
definition of recovery. However, certain concepts or factors are common to
recovery.
Hope is a Major Factor in Recovery, Without Hope that things can and will get better than the Recovery Process is Stopped and there is not much of a possiblity of success. A little hope can go along way. Along with home it is Important that People give themselves Time , Time to heal, learn and process everything. Often for the Borderline Patience and waiting are not their best Virtues, they want It now and feel as if they cannot wait it Out, I know that is how I often feel. There is also the need for treatment, One can self heal and also must at some point but These illnesses are not overcome without Professional support.. Medications, Therapy of various types, and Other Mental Health Resources are a vital part of the recovery Process, as with Drug and Alcohol recovery all of these are helpful as well But there is also the need for a sponsor, meetings, and staying away from reminders of that Lifestyle.
Support from peers, family, friends and
mental health professionals is essential to recovery from mental illness. It is
especially beneficial to have multiple sources of support. This not only reduces
a consumer’s sense of isolation, but also increases their activity in the
community, allowing them to obtain an integral role in society.
In addition to support from individuals,
participation in support groups is an important tool for recovery. Consumers
frequently report that being able to interact with others who understand their
feelings and experiences is the most important ingredient for their recovery. In order to maximize recovery, it is
important to learn as much as possible about our illnesses, medications, best
treatment practices and available resources. It’s also important to learn about
ourselves, including our symptoms so that we can gain better control over our
illnesses.
As for my recovery from BPD, Bipolar, and Drug Addiction, It has been an ongoing process with many Relapses, yes relapse is part of recovery, although some are lucky and never go through falls. I have had many falls and often when I emotionally Relapse the Chemical part of it is not far behind. I am relapsing now, everyday with my BPD but am doing my best not to Cut, use, drink, or take part in other destructive behaviors. Relapse is a part of me and my recovery, I do not like this but it is a fact and for me It is not about Eliminating the relapses right now but instead minimizing them and Damage Control. I hope to one day be in Recovery where there are no falls, No lapses in Judgement, or Relapses but for now It is one day at a Time and sometimes one Breath at a Time.
There is much to learn about Myself, My disease and the whole Culture of relapse and recovery.. Not only for myself but for Us all because we are faced with problems that do not go away but I feel Do get better with the Proper Help and Support.
