In light of SilverWind's entry about polar bears, I have some polar bear news of my own, which appals me. There is this polar bear cub in the zoo of Berlin Germany, by the name of Knut. Knut recently made it's first appearence before the public, but it was the center of controversy in the weeks before. German animal protection activists wanted the authorities to put Knut down. They argued that a cub will never grow to become a real polar bear in captivity. They may have a point, but that is no excuse for taking a life. Plus, if things continue the way they are polar bears will become extinct well before the turn of the century, and people calling themselves animal rights activists should feel ashamed trying to speed up this process. Their pleas have been largely ignored however, and have only backfired on the activists themselves. The German public are outraged at them.
I heard that story, and one of the thigns I heard was that the mother rejected the cub and so the German Animal Rights activists wanted the zoo to kill the club instead of rising it on thier own, because they say that is against nature because in the wild the cub would have died. Not that I agree with that, but I just think it is wild, seeing the mindset and ideas of animal rights activists in other countries, cause over here in the US something like that would never fly.
I had seen that on the news last week most animal rights activists are basically publicity seekers especially these bimbo model types that go naked simply for publicity and attention, I'm not convinced these extremists care about animals.
There are far better ways to be advocates for animals, though the legislative process, it requires hard work and dedication, and monetary support. after looking at that cute Knut who would want that dear cub put to sleep? No one in their right mind.
Sadly this cub will have to spend the rest of its it's life institutionalized inside a zoo since it has been domesticated and most likely will lack the survival skills to survive in the wild, anyway thats just my opinion and how I feel
As always Dutch, that was a great blog on an interesting subject.
Sincerely,
Your Friend,

PS I wanted to mention that whats totally ignored by the media for example whats going in in West Virginia, beautiful wild wolves are being caught in steel traps set by farmers that put them there to protect their livestock and hunters that want to profit of their fur. These traps have like sharp iron teeth that snap on a wolf's leg and snap shut and leave the poor wolf in agonizing pain and to die a slow painful death, its such a cruel inhuman way to deal with wolves, and also Native Americans in which wolves play an important part of their culture. I speak from personal experience on this issue as I adopted a wolf pup who's mom was caught in the trap, at 4 months I had brought the wolf to my cousin who owns a farm and the pup could have a good life there He himself is the owner of two wolves one male the other female. The media never focuses on this unfortunately.
Thank you for blogging on this issue Dutch
While the world was busy focussing on Knut, the polar bear, another tragedy struck in the very same zoo in Berlin: Yan Yan, a panda bear was found dead in its cage. Yesterday evening, I heard suspicions on CNN that the zoo was tied up so much in the entire Knut business that they became careless about the other animals. I'm not convinced that this suspicion is reasonable. I've looked into the info available online, and found that the panda bear died of a condition that can kill such an animal within four hours.
No, I haven't returned to MySpace. This acquaintance goes back eleven years.
