I have started this page in response to the information I get from my visitor tracker, StatCounter. In order to serve my first time readers better I have written a few tips on how to improve your search results and enhance your enjoyment of this blog. Most of this information is aimed at inexperienced internet users, but anybody wanting to explore this site may find at least some useful information here.
1 Search engines: 1.1 The first thing I noticed is how many people get to my site through convoluted queries. As I try to cover a wide range of subjects in relatively short entries, this won't get you anywhere on my page. One tip would be to repeat your query with quotation marks ("). This will yield far more specific search results. Remember however, that you must use full sentences or grammatically correct sets of words, including words like 'the', 'and', etc. Using quotation marks is also important when looking for combinations of commonly used first and last names. 1.2 If you find yourself in trouble just finding what you are looking for on my pages, go back to your search engine, and under the search result that took you to my blog, click on 'cached'. This way, the words you're looking for will be highlighted throughout my page. This way you may also get a glimpse of what my blog used to look like in the time the cache was made. 1.3 This may not be of any concern to 95% percent of you. I've also noticed that a lot of queries begin with 'pictures of'. I realize that most of you do this, because image searches are sometimes disappointing, but for those who don't know, every search engine has an 'images' option. 2 Site navigation: 2.1 Some of the entries that attract the most search engine visitors are actually part of a series of entries. The best example of this is my entry 'Silly expressions'. This entry must be very disappointing in itself, but in such in such instances it might be worth your while if you were to click on the category, which follows the words 'Posted in', or on a tag, which follows the words 'Filed under'. If you click on a Technorati tag you will get even better results from blogs from around the world. The tags for this page are "rss, search engines, site navigation", the category is "miscellaneous". 2.2 You may also want to have a look at my links to the outside world. Some are located in my sidebar, but I also have an 'External links' page, which is ever growing. 2.3 If you wish to respond to something I write, please click on 'A penny for your thoughts', or 'Speak your mind'. Don't forget about the Captcha validation key. I have a triple comment alert system in place, so it doesn't matter whether you post a comment under a new or an old entry. I will get an email containing the full content of your comment, it will appear on my comments page, and I will see that the number of comments I received is up, so I will be looking for it. If you're asked to include an email address, and you don't wish to receive email alerts if someone responds to your comment, you may enter sietselogger@aim.com. This is an account I only use for spam. If you send me spam, I will know your IP address.
3 Feed subscriptions: 3.1 If you like my blog, you may consider subscribing to my RSS feed. Please scroll down to the bottom of this page. Chances are you are already using at least one of the options there. 3.2 If you're using a feed reader not listed there please copy and paste the URL below into the reader you do use, and if that's an online reader, please post a comment and tell me where to find it, so I can include a button for that one as well. * http://www.journalhome.com/rss.php?w=dutchboy1980
4 Images: 4.1 Images that I link to in my sidebar are my intellectual property. I made them myself, and I own the negatives. However, do not let that stop you from using them. Do host them on your own site or in your own online album however. Don't use the bandwith of my image host for your site's needs. You do not need to credit me, but just do not claim they are yours. 4.2 An online image host I recommend is Flickr.

It's just that by far the most people who find me thru one of the search engines are from the US, and there are some lawsuit happy elements in America you must protect yourself against, eh?
