Something I only learned recently. I find myself unable to lift my spirits to do anything except carrying out my day-to-day functions. It's actually quite irritating that I am feeling so lacklustred. There are so many things I want to do yet can't bring out that extra effort to follow through. It seems easier existing in this limbo where there is little need to do anything. At least today I managed to drag my sorry self out of the house to visit my alma mater. My main aims were to visit a dear friend and a teacher who had previously taught me. Enjoyed talking to my friend a lot as we have known each other for quite a long time and we share many common passions. It made me think that friends may be everywhere but true friends are really hard to find. The talk with my teacher exposed me to things which I have not experienced before. He really taught me what to expect about the working world and to be more exact, the education world. Complex as it is, it is like those of the commercial world. Being made up of individuals from varying backgrounds and motives, there are invariably similarities between both worlds. Politics are just the tip of the iceberg. I may still be far away from all this at the moment but I do not doubt that the time will come for me. All roads have obstacles, and the journey may sometimes mean more than the destination.
On a lighter note, it has already been 2 lessons for my driving. I'm learning but not quite at the desired pace. Considering how many times I killed the engine, more effort needs to be put in to improve. Just read finish the latest Lee Child thriller titled "Bad luck and Trouble". Fascinating read if you are a fan of the US hero Jack Reacher. He was once again called in to save the world from destruction. Felt the style of writing has changed a little. Sentences are more concised yet still able to aptly describe the situation. Definitely easier to read. That's all for now. Activities are hopefully planned for this weekend or else it's going to be one boring weekend! |

Well, I'm free. No longer chained, no longer caged yet there is a sort of emptiness about all this. Can't wait to enter university but what am I suppose to do with my time remaining? Officially, I count as one in the unemployed column in some statistic in some place. I could find a job but there's no point if the job doesn't suit me. Another thing to point out is that I probably only have one month to work because I do have commitments in June. Hoping for a relief teaching position since I already applied through MOE and was given approval. What's left is to find the right school and the right subject. That's currently my choice option. There's not really a backup plan this time round. Enough about my occupation problems for the moment. Went to Thailand and back with a group of friends. Enjoyed it really much! Many thanks to the organizers Colin and YF as well as all the others who accompanied me on the trip ZC, Edwin, YK, Leslie and Melvin Lin. ORD loh! Scammy was the word of the trip in Thailand. Guys will know what I'm talking about. Tried to curb my spending urges but failed quite spectacularly in more than one instance. Cue Red Flags! BFC grew quite a bit and the bond among us have strengthen quite considerably. Hope to have more outings like this be it local or overseas. Till next time! |

This is not uncommon. Many games and sports exist people who resort to underhand means to achieve the desired results. Let's take a look at sports. From history, sportsmen have been caught using drugs to boost their performance. These are often stimulants or muscle building drugs which help to improve the physical performance of the sportsman in a short span of time. As a result, they gain an unfair advantage over their peers. Cheating? Definitely. Nowadays, they even feed drugs to animals so that they can perform at their peak. Horses are an excellent example. Forget the fact that they use these elegant animals for a sport such as horse-racing, by feeding drugs to the horses, they are effectively forcibly taking life away from them. I really feel for the horses. On the topic of drugs, there are also drugs which can lead to deterioration of the physical performance of the sportsman. Normally, these are used on the enemies so that even if the playing field was fair, there will still be an unfair advantage. People forget that this short-term benefits will come back and haunt them in the long run. Drugs harm the body and that is an undisputable fact. By causing the rapid growth of muscles early on, the deterioration of these muscles will also take double quick time. A shorter lifespan is almost a given. So why take the risk just to enjoy a moment of 'glory'? Another form of cheating which is common is bribery. Bribing the officials or the opposing players is a sure way of fixing the results of matches. By dangling a carrot so large that it become irresistable, the ugly side of humanity emerges in its full gory. It can happen and even though, like doping, many organiations have become watchdogs for all these vices, nobody can be vigilant 24 hours a day. Is the spirit of the sport worth so little? Now we come to games. People always try to find a way to win using any means possible, Unfortunately, some people resort to illegal ways of achieving these. Games come with their own set of rules to follow yet people choose to break them as if they were there to be broken. With so little respect for the game, they really should just quit playing if they can't play within the rules. That's all I have to say for today. Cheaters are people I really hate and will not hesitate to condemn at every given opportunity. Till next time, stay tune to The Beginnings of Time. |

Everyone has experienced this before. The moment of pure joy. That burst of technicolour in your life amid the grey shadows of the monotone. The exhilaration that seems symbiotic to happiness erupting and moving to the rhythm of your beating heart. It's a really wonderful feeling. And to think I'm about to experience all these and probably more in well, less than 72 hours.
For those who are wondering what I'm talking about, wher have you been for the past 2 years. Pink is definitely the new in-colour for this season. While some may argue about its feminine origins, I don't mind embracing the colour for a while. Guys who wear pink must either be very daring or well, they just like the colour? By the way, I'm not into wearing pink. Again, if you don't know what I'm talking about, sometimes, the ladies don't get it.
So many grand plans have been made for this friday, yet many things are still left undone. I'm planning to fix it hopefully by tomorrow though I would need the help of Providence and Lady Luck. We shall plough ahead even in the darkest times as long as the sliver of light can be seen. For those who have still a way to go, always believe that you will get there, as long as it takes and whatever ordeals you may have to face. Have courage like the lion in The Wizard of Oz and the determination of Kenichi. For time is a trickster: it moves but at different paces. Just like Loki, it sometimes play tricks with the mind.
Looking forward to my trip to Bangkok. The important things in life are friends and family and the time you spend with them. Cherish every moment with them and regrets will be far and few between. Till the next time, go read The Tabitha's Code. Google it. It's an interesting book. |

Who are alchemists? If you have watched the anime Full-Metal Alchemist, you may still have some idea who they are. They are just like scientists who work with metals. Their aim is to purify the metal and turn it into goal. Two mystical items associated with alchemists are The Philosopher's Stone and The Elixir. The former is believed to be able to turn any metal into goal while the latter is belived to provide longevity. Actually my true aim today is to recommend a book with the same name as the tiltle of my blog entry. Its author is a Brazilian called Paulo Coelho. One thing to note is that the original language of the book is actually in his native tongue and it has been translated in many other languages. Its sales has also reached millions worldwide and such a book is a rare find indeed. I especially appreciate the simple language the book uses as it uses simple ideas and analogies to get the point across. There are many lessons to learn from the book even though it is suppose to be fiction. Everything happens for a reason and everyone has his or her own personal legends (to quote the book) to follow. Whether we end up fulfilling our personal legends is really up to our own will and determination. The fantasy part of the book is when the boy is able to talk to the wind, the Sun and even the Hand which creates. I don't want to give many things away but if it were up to me, I'll rate the book 4.5 stars out of 5. No book is perfect but this surely comes close! Until next time!! |

The topic today isn't meant to scare anyone. I just wondered if anyone has encountered something unexplainable, something extraordinary and even something that science fails to explains. It's just that I have been reading quite a number of fiction books recently and most of them deal with supernatural beings. Examples would be vampires, werewolves, witches, wizards...etc. They are all interesting, but the most interesting one would be the presence of ghosts or spirits as some may call them. Translucent for most of them, it is believed that not everyone can see them. Only the selected few who can open up the so-called 'third eye' are able to see these entities. It may not be such a good idea to see them as many are also believed to harbour evil or malicious intent. Hey, not everyone is Casper right? Recently on my trip to Genting, my parents heard a strange plumbing sound coming from their toilet. Further investigations show that there was in fact no one in the toilet. Spooked, they told the duty manager who promised to continue the investigation. Unbelievable? Probably.
Anyway, I do love fantasy stories. Stories about witches and vampires, especially vampires. Light-fearing, immortal, bloodsucking and supposedly beautiful in that eerie way. How about witches? Throwing powerful spells that cause massive destruction, concoting potions and again known to be mostly beautiful. (though some are also horrifyingly ugly) Werewolves are people who have the animal instict in them, often letting that instict get the better of them on the night of a full moon.
If you have the time, read a few story books. And if you like fantasy, borrow books about vampires. Until the next time I fell like entering an entry ciao! |

Never bothered using the dictionary so not very sure if I spelt it right. Anyway, I'm sure this isn't an unfamiliar term to most of you. Pseudonyms are names which are created to disguise the true identity of someone. Quite often, writers use pseudonyms to write their books in a bid to gain some privacy. So why is there a need to hide your identity as a writer? One of these reasons is that they is increased privacy as the true identity of the writer is fortunately masked. This prevents a lot of unwanted happenings which inevitably follows fame. Another reason is that the writer is trying something new and doesn't wish for reader bias. This is a little more complicated to explain. Writers tend to specialise in certain genres. However, ideas may become stagnant as the general content remains the same. In order to serach for inspiration, writers will experiment and alter their styles of writing. Pseudonyms take away some expectations and stress which comes with a good writer. It allows creative expression a chance to show itself off. So don't judge a book by its cover. Nor should you judge it by the author! :-) |

Blame it on my morbid fascination of darkness. Or it could be black being a fashion colour no matter the season. Darkness interests me. The fact that nothing can survive should the world be thrown into darkness could be a contibuting factor. Imagine the world without the Sun. It would be the "end of world" as we know it. The Ice Age would have returned. Temperatures dropping. Everlasting winters. No more plants. No more life. What would happen then? But again, that's only one aspect of darkness.
Look at it another way. Darkness exist even where light is. The Sun sets every day just so the night can come. It is the relationship between day and night that I find particularly intriguing. It is a cycle that never stops. Sort of like a cogwheel. Turning and turning. What is night without day and vice versa? The contrast could never have been more beautiful. We really appreciate the day because we know what night feels like.
Now to emotions. Darkness exist in the deepest recesses of our mind and heart. No one is born pure evil or good. We are actually all about contradictions. We may know what is right and wrong but we do not always act on what we know. Somewhere there's an angel and a devil that exist in your mind. What we do depends on who we listen to. It may sound very cartoonish but I sincerely believe that something like that (if no angel and devil) truly lives within everyone of us. People who suffer from depression could be people who allow the darkness to grow and consume themselves. They refuse to see the light (or the angel) that glows faintly. In these cases, they really do need help. Sometimes, darkness can seem invincible and we need all the help we can get. People who commit evil deeds ought to be punished. But they are also people who give in to the suductive voice of the dark side.
Help should be rendered when needed. Darkness can be conquered if not vanquished. For darkness exist in all of us. And there would be no light without it. So much for being thought-provoking. I'm gonna ORD loh! Left 40 days!!! :) |

As usual, I'm blogging on impulse. Why not? I'm feeling particularly rebellious today as I always do. Musings...not amusing or bemusing certainly. Well, I'm lazy to find out the actual meaning of the word so I'm going to come out one instead. To me, musings are some random things that somehow sneak in to the backdrop of your mind and stays there for a certain period of time. Before I launch myself into my tirade of how the mind is actually a super computer and how much musings stick is actually how much RAM you have, let me go back to topic. I love to muse. In fact, to be really honest, musings are what makes up the basis for many of my entries. Just some random things can really get me thinking deeply. It's not really a conscious thing, but sometimes when it comes, it's quite difficult to ignore. So I think hard and try to find an answer to my questions. Sometimes, it can get quite difficult to figure out the answer so it would be good to have someone or even a group of people share their opinions. However, I must concede that the pace of this world is unrelenting. It doesn't really give you much time to breathe easily, rather it rushes you to complete things properly and in the best way possible. There really isn't much time to consider something as unimportant as musings from someone else. Yet, I really hope that this can change in the not-too-distant future. After all, life isn't long. Gotta enjoy while you can. And I really enjoy musing about stuff. Even if they are unimportant. For what is important to one may not be as important for another. Remember to rest well for health cannot be compromised and smile as often as possible. A smile is just like a ray of sunshine after the rain! :) |

Some people say I'm very serious. Like I have a very serious look. Some even say I'm stuck-up, proud, arrogant and though I dread to use the word, even hostile. Well, I guess everyone has an opinion. Hey, I'm probably all these things. So it looks like I have to change. Changing is always tough. A leopard never change its spots. Being all the above maybe how people see me. However I assure you I don't feel this way. Its the facial expression I guess. I don't have the control I would like of my facial expression so it comes across as very serious and even to the point of putting on 'airs'. Smiling doesn't come easy to me. Think it's because I am a serious person most of the time. Don't really know how to let my hair down. I'm very different when I'm with my friends though. Could be because I know them pretty well and they know me just as well if not better. So blame me for being xenophobic. I'm just like a porcupine who raises its spikes to protect itself. I know that's not the way for a social circle should be as wide as possible. Or else I'll just be like a frog in a well. The sky holds endless possibilities and to really open your eyes, you need to widen your social circle. Get to know a lot more friends. Let them share their experiences with you and you can bring a part of your sky to fit their jigsaw puzzle. That would be one of my countless new year resolutions. Back to my mirror I guess. Till next time, may you always find a new sky to explore! |

We communicate in many ways. We talk, laugh, sing and cry to show how we feel regarding any event. Those are what you would call verbal communication. It is a very important tool to put your point across to another. Camp mates would know what I'm talking about since lack of communication is one of the dirty dozen. A lack of communication in my workplace can lead to some disastatorous consequnces one of which is causing bodily harm to another person. However, there are other ways verbal communication can hurt people. Describing a person as lazy and worthless, sometimes that hurts more than using a stick and hitting that person. Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt. How sad that this can hardly be described as true. Words can caress like the wind but also slice right through the heart like a gilt-edged sword. It is up to the user how to use the simple weapon of verbal communication.
Verbal communication can also clear a lot of misunderstandings. Keeping silent about accusations thrown at you is hardly evidence of your innocence. Speaking up for yourself and providing ample evidence can help solve difficult problems. On the topic of problems, verbal communication means that asking for help is perfectly all right and highly encouraged. If you don't ask for help, nobody would know you need it, much less lend a helping hand.
Next up is non-verbal communication. This one's a bit tricky. Most of the time, it has to do with body reactions. In other words, physical communication. It could just be a look of displeasure to let you know that he's angry with you. It tends to be a more subtle form of commuication and should be cautiously interpreted. Lots of misunderstandings can come from it if not understood perfectly. Nonetheless, it is very important. There are just some instance that words are unable to describe feelings and only the body can. A sensuous dance can put a lot of words to shame. At least, that's what I'm reading about. Playing an instrument like the piano or the violin can also express things that can't be easily explained verbally.
That's all for today. Enjoying heaven as it should be. A utopia of sorts. A paradise in the midst of Earth. Won't last long for it is only a desert spring. Soon, it would be time to move on... |

What I really want for my birthday is a device that can measure my maturity. I really want to know how matured I am. I wonder if I still have the brain of a 5 year old or am I acting my age. These days, the distinction is very blurred to me. Sometimes I feel I'm acting like a spoiled brat while other times I feel like I have inspirations or breakthroughs in thinking if that actually makes any sense. Certainly, my grammer has taken a back-seat and is regressing to the standard of a secondary school student. Also, I feel I'm not as competent in studying as I use to be. (not that I studied really well initially) However, the problem I'm more worried about is how matured I am. I can't seem to integrate myself well to the adult world. Being an adult has many implications as well as responsibilities. I do realise these points at least. The extra freedom I get from being an adult has a price. My parents aren't too bothered about what time I get back as long as I notify them where and what I'm doing. I even get a house-key. I don't read the newspapers very often. Regret is what I feel but I can't seem to bring myself to read the articles, always believing I can spend my time in better ways. Well, one of my resolutions for this year is to change this bad habit of mine. It is important to know about world news. It may not affect me directly, but it can still affect me in some ways I never even dream about. After all, having more information is better than having less. To me, this is a sign of maturity. Politics is another area which I ought to pay more attention to. After all, I can (or must) vote in the next election! While I know about all this things I still feel I have a Peter Pan heart. I want to have fun and do all the things children below my age love to do. I like to play TCGs, MMORPGs, computer games and listen to boy bands sing. Basically whatever a teenager likes to do, I also share the same likes. I may no longer be a teenager but I still yearn to lead a life like one. The joy and laughter that one can derive from this kind of life is a far cry from the life an adult lives.
Is it wrong and immatured to want a life like that? Is this just escapism on my part from the newly-found responsibilities of adult life? How I wish for maturity-meter to tell me the answers. Or is it just my 'maturity' showing for my reliance on a fantasy device that probably won't even show up in fairy tales? Wonder who can tell me the answers... |

Not sure what that means though. Perhaps it's a saying to let the past lie and not go back to it. Perhaps it is used to advise people to look to the future. Or is it an expression of time? Gee, it sounds so cool though.
Anyway, ashes are what you will find after burning something like paper. If I remember correctly, volcanic eruptions also produce a lot of ash. Those flaky grey substance that resemble a solid crumbles at a slight touch. So fragile is ash that once broken, it looks like sand.
Dust on the other hand is all around us. Why is it, when something has not been disturbed for a time, that dust settles on it? I'm not sure either. Sometimes, I can see dust particles especially when the sun shines. It's kind of weird. Then my dad and bro will start sneezing coz they have sensitive nose lol.
Anyway, that's all for a short entry and to prove that this blog is somewhat active lol. |

It is special isn't it? Well, it has factors 1 and 21, 3 and 7. It's just above 20 in the number system. I believe it's a bus that goes to Pasir Ris. And...It's also my age as of today.
Things have certainly changed quite a bit. I am officially an adult. Wow, it's a big word. It means I would have to shoulder more responsibilities. For example, I'm now required to vote should there be an elections. Actually, in retrospect, it could be fun! Anyway, being an adult means I can't be childish and indulge as so...Right? A question that leaves much to be pondered. Should I be feeling anything since I'm now an adult? I don't feel any different. Maturity comes with age for some, for others it may not be so. I feel I have still quite a long way to go before I am matured enough to know that I am. Sounds confusing, but it makes sense to me. Please note that it does not make perfect sense as yet though. Guess it has to do with maturity. I still have my likes and dislikes though admittedly they have changed through the years. For example, I use to hate soups. Any kind of soups. Now, I find myself drinking them quite often. Livers were a no-no for me. But now, I quite enjoy the taste of it. I use to love durians but now the smell puts me off. I still love anime and my hobby (in case you do not know, I will tell you...NOT!!!) Sorry, it's my childish petulance that took over for a moment. Now to the next topic.
Since it's my birth day today, let me thank a few ppl who have made it quite special this year. First of all, let me thank my classmates who celebrated them for me at a certain place at a certain time this year. Why the secrecy? Coz I love privacy! Who are they? They are yn, mx, sk, weil, ys, hl, jonah, terr, yf, ken, zx...if i missed anyone pls forgive me. I only have the memory of a child. A thousand apologies! And if you don't recognize your name here, I'm sorry coz i can't spell really well. Also, I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratefulness to ocl and calv who took great effort to celebrate my birth day with me at calv's club. The card was especially thoughtful and received with much honour. Overall, I'm glad I have great friends who i can count on and if they do not find me a bother, count on me should the need arises.
This has been an especially long entry filled with grammatical errors as well as spelling. I would like to apologize to my GP teach who have never adored us as a class. Budden who am I to criticize? I'm just a kid. (a baby goat...I'm glad i remembered!)
Finally, let there be peace on Earth. May AVP never happen in my life. And Iamlegend remain as so. World peace ppl! (feel like a beauty contestant haha) :-)) |

I know a lot of people have voiced why my blog is not updated everyday. Well, the reason is simple. I don't have the time nor energy to keep updating my blog everyday. Besides, what's important is that I didn't delete it right? Anyway, I want to talk about pushing people around. Frankly speaking I can't stand people who push people around as if they don't matter. In my opinion, these people are just plain bullies. it's okay to ask for favours from people but please do so in a polite and gracious way. Also, prepare for rejection. After all, it is a favour you are asking isn't it? Please do not abuse whatever small authority you may have and pass on the job to one of so-called lower ranked. It is disgraceful and a clear sign of your incompetence. If you cannot treat others as if you are treating your family or friends, it is difficult to survive in this society. Courtersy goes a very long way. Respect will come in time. I have met a few people who act like bullies though no one has tried to push me around. I especially detest people who try to do it on my friends. Hesistance is not my strong suit so don't be surprised if I confront the bully. Bullies are cowards who make use of what false feeling of self-importance to exact their wishes on people whom they consider weaker than them. |

Just watched National Treasure 2 and was deeply inspired by he characters. Will not dwell too much on the movie in case people haven't watched it yet. But imagine if there was some hidden treasure in this part of the world, will we see the rise of the treasure hunters? Treasures are so called valuable items and does possess a mysterious feel to it. It leaves the impression that you have to spend some effort to look for it. Many movies have treasure including Pirates. So what do you consider treasure? Money perhaps could be one of the choices. A chest full of gold coins like in Pirates could be a possible candidate for the meaning of treasure. How about a family heirloom? Maybe a brooch that was handed down from generation to generation. Though its monetary value may not amount to much but its intrinsic value could be invaluable. Then we have the intangibles. Non-physical items like friendships and kinships. These could be as good as treasure if not better. Finding a long-lost friend can be as good as striking a fortune. Still, wouldn't it be nice if there was treasure to be found? Adventures and chapters in my lifestory will be filled up quickly. It would be exciting and an escape from the mundane life that I'm leading. Yet there would be dangers as adventures go. Nothing risk nothing gain. Anyway, that's all I have today. Not really looking forward to the holiday ahead. Got to work. Damn sad. |

It's been a long time since I've blogged. So pardon me if I have made any grammatical errors. Today's topic is the spirit of giving. To give is something special for it means that you have something worth giving. In many instances, it is not the gift but the sincerity of the action that is heartfelt and brings warmth to the recepient. And why not give? It is a simple action but can arouse many positive emotions from the recepient. It makes a person feel loved, that there is someone out there who cares and is willing to go to some trouble to show how he feels. The person who gives also feel good having express his feelings for the other.
The reason for my entry is because it is close to Christmas and it is a season for giving. A card or a present can mean so much to the people around you. By spending a little effort, it may help fortify friendships and is a good reminder that friends are still in contact. That's all for me. I really harbour a great dislike for my work right now. Can't wait to quit. Till then, keep the comments flying though I may be inactive! :) |

Power in any definition is an ability. It helps, maims, comforts, confuses...the list goes on. It is always present but many bemoans its lacking. It can create wonders and it can also cause mindless destruction. To weild it, one has to have a conscience and a strong will. A weak mind will create a dark road. The end of the tunnel draws near. People in power must reflect. For their best interests often serves no purpose to others. In that itself, the danger lies. |

Yup, this is the topic of the day. What is there to understand about it? It is something that no amount of money can buy. In fact, money is what can destroy it. Little bribes here and there to important people can actually compromise the integrity of a whole corporation. Such is the power of money. Yet this is not what I want to talk about. What I really want to touch on is the building of trust. It is a time consuming thing and a lot of effort is needed to achieve it. However, it is easily breakable and the bridge is not easily mended anymore. So how do we develop this precious thing? First of all, get to know the person. Know his personality and his attitude towards various things. Next, decide if these things align with your own values. Evaluate his ability to complete tasks. Then look for the chemistry when working together. If everything seems to be in order, feed this relationship with time. Time is needed because people change and sometimes not for the better. The initial stage could have all been an act to trick you into tusting him. Such traps do exist and it is only nieavity that causes us to forget about them. Once you feel that the time spent is enough for you to know the other well, add trust into the equation. Yes, human feelings are important ingredients to this whole mixture. This is my version of trust, what is yours? |
