3/19/2008 - Pseudonyms
Never bothered using the dictionary so not very sure if I spelt it right. Anyway, I'm sure this isn't an unfamiliar term to most of you. Pseudonyms are names which are created to disguise the true identity of someone. Quite often, writers use pseudonyms to write their books in a bid to gain some privacy. So why is there a need to hide your identity as a writer? One of these reasons is that they is increased privacy as the true identity of the writer is fortunately masked. This prevents a lot of unwanted happenings which inevitably follows fame. Another reason is that the writer is trying something new and doesn't wish for reader bias. This is a little more complicated to explain. Writers tend to specialise in certain genres. However, ideas may become stagnant as the general content remains the same. In order to serach for inspiration, writers will experiment and alter their styles of writing. Pseudonyms take away some expectations and stress which comes with a good writer. It allows creative expression a chance to show itself off. So don't judge a book by its cover. Nor should you judge it by the author! :-)
