The fun theoryI saw some interesting videos today. They were about initiatives about making the right thing to do more fun. There's a lot of creative ideas submitted, like: 1. Modified a rubbish bin so that everything you throw rubbish into the bin, it makes a sound as if a bomb is dropped. Tthe sound makes it seem like the bin is really deep. Results: 72kg of rubbish a day - 41kg more than a normal bin a small distance away. 2. Making glass bottle recycling fun - an arcade style machine that collects bottles was made. It was used 100 times, compared to another recycling bin down the street which was used only twice. Their point - fun obviously changes behavior for the better. I frowned and thought to myself - this is worrying, indeed. If the general population needs such initiatives to do the right thing, it means they don't even care - or know - what are the impacts of these little actions. Recycling, not littering, tidying up your own room, obeying the red light, buckling up when in a transport etc. I can't picture what's the impact of doing the right things for the wrong reasons. And before you think I disapprove of that - their point is obviously stronger than mine. All I did was rant on my weblog. Them? Projects that can potentially change the world. http://www.thefuntheory.com 9:34 PM - 3/13/2010 - post commentShare and enjoy
