10/14/2011 - Simple Tips To Maximize Your Garden
    Posted in Unspecified

Many folks enjoy their own small garden in their back yards. I've had my very own simple garden for many years. At the time I initially started, my whole entire crop turned out to be no more than half the size of a five gallon bucket. With the help of my grandaddy, since then, I've been able to grow more than enough fruit and veggies to feed my entire family. This is obviously not easy to create a flourishing garden so here are a few tips to help you get there sooner than later.

First thing is to make certain that the spot you choose for your garden draws at least 8 to 10 hours of direct sunlight each day. The lack of sufficient sunlight for your garden can present you with poor results. Making sure you have enough sunlight is a basis to a great garden.

Once you determined your spot, you want to till the soil with manure and seaweed. This seaweed does not have to be from the ocean, you can get seaweed in just about any lake, pond or even river. By adding manure and seaweed to the soil, you will be adding lots of healthy nutrients needed for your garden to grow and thrive. Along with manure and seaweed, it's also possible to use compost that you've prepared or purchased.

While watering your garden, you need to pay particular attention. Regardless if you give too much water or too little water, you won't produce a lot of fruits or vegetables. As a basis, you must ensure your plants and flowers are getting 1 to 2 inches of water every week. This can allow the roots to grow deep and healthy. If you don't get enough rainwater, you may want to water your plants before 10:00am. Do not water in the afternoon as the leaves may burn from the hot sun. Also if you water much later in the evening your plants may grow fungus from the leaves being damp all night.

In terms of holding pests off your plants I have some things that may seem unusual but they work great and you won't have to use harsh chemicals. Another thing you can do is to plant basil, lavender and peppermint all around your garden. These plants are excellent at helping to keep many types of insects away from your plants, plus deer and rabbits dislike them as well. Here is an alternate way to keep insects away. Incorporate together 1 to 2 tbsps . of essence of garlic and 2 tablespoon of dish lotion with 1 cup of vegetable oil. When put together add about 2 tablespoons of the concoction to a pump bottle and then fill the bottle with water. Now once weekly start using your squirt bottle to spray this mixture on all the plants.
