8/13/2008 - Quinton Jackson involved in car chase
Posted in Unspecified

Well it´s been a while since July 15th when the former UFC Light Heavy Weight champ was involved in a car chase. Quinton Jackson led Costa Mesa police officers on a wild chase that left crashed cars and shredded tires on the 55 freeway. He would later exit onto Newport Boulevard where he would hit 3 more cars. "Rampage" Jackson would then proceed to hit 2 cars on 19th street and then fled the scene at approximately 1:19pm, according to Lt. Paul Dondero.

Jackson was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, hit and run as well as reckless driving. However, Jackson may be facing more severe charges. As a result of Jackson actions a woman by the name of Holli Griggs may have miscarried. On July 15th Griggs was driving her Cadillac Escalade when she was sideswiped by Jackson´s truck as he was evading arrest.

This may seem to be one of those situations where a celebrity athlete is once again being irresponsible and violent. We have seen this over and over again in the cases of Mike Vick, etc, etc. However Jackson, who claims to be a born again Christian, who does not drink, use drugs or act in a manner that is reprehensible to God may be cut from a different cloth from other criminal minded athletes.

Check out how lucid Rampage seems in an interview the day before the car chase.

According to UFC President, Dana White, "Rampage´s" actions were the result of severe delirium and exhaustion. "Rampage lost the fight to Forrest Griffin. He hung out in Vegas for a week. He was hanging out by the pool and he was fasting. He wasn´t drinking; he wasn´t eating. He was drinking energy drinks," explained White.

"You saw what happened on TV, the problems that he had," he continued. "They took him in for psychiatric evaluation for over 72 hours. What they came back with was that there was nothing wrong with him mentally; it was physically."

Dana White proceeded to post Quinton´s $25,000.00 bond and get him back into training. No charges have been filed yet but serious legal issues are on the horizon for the UFC star.

Dana White seems to be under the impression that Quinton is doing well

As a fan of MMA I´ve been following Quinton´s since the beginning. I´ve seen the early fights against the likes of Marvin Eastman, Rob Smith and Sean Gray. I´ve been entertained by his later fights against the likes of Wanderlei Silva, Kevin Randleman and Chuck Liddell. This guy is really entertaining. Not only is he entertaining but he´s talented and personable. He is a fighter who has not been coddled. He´s been thrown to the wolves over the majority of his career and despite the odds has landed at or near the trop of the sport. He deserves every good thing that a mixed martial arts organization has to offer a fighter.

That being said, I have questions concerning the Dana White explanation of what happened. I was listening to Gary Alexander´s "Ultimate Podcast." Gary stated that he had visited with Quinton Jackson the day before the alleged incident and that Quinton ate a meal at a restaurant. If this is true then Dana White explanation is at least partially wrong.

The question on my mind is what happens now. Will Quinton repeat this behavior in the future? Only time will tell.
