1/3/2001 - Know about Prawn Fishing
Posted in Unspecified

Anyone who loves fishing, have fish for pets and anyone who want to feed their fishes would agree that Prawn fishing or prawning is such an enjoyable and addictive sport and here are a few tips you can use to be able to catch prawns successfully and you can be assured that though these tips are usually geared to prawn farm fishing, when you fish prawn on streams and ponds, you’d get essentially the same results.

Even though prawn fishing farms provide fishing rod, hook size 2 or 3 or bigger if you know they are big prawns but must be sharp, and baits like seaworms, earthworms, chicken liver or heart together with their hourly charge, you should bring your own tools if probable especially baits to enhance your catch rate. The prawns you are catching are bottom feeders so it is a must to make your baits reach the bottom of the pond and with this, you need to first determine the depth of the pond. You can do this by dipping the rod butt into the pond and once the butt touches the bottom of the pond, mark the water level and adjust your float according to the level you marked n your rod. Consider the sharpness of the hook when prawn fishing because it differs from typical fishing in terms of frequent hook ups and one session of prawning could mean more hook ups that can wear out your hook’s sharpness faster. A dull hook could decrease the hook up rate. Fighting the prawn is the mistake that is most complicated to correct because once a prawn is hooked, the adrenaline rush will cause most people to have a tendency to quickly yank the prawn out of the water but a lot of prawns are lost in this way. When trying to escape, prawns use their tails and thrusts backwards and you are creating an opposite force when you pull it out of the water by which this act could tear the prawns’ mouth easily. This misfortune can be avoided by just allowing the prawn to struggle while you are keeping your cool, holding on to your rod and allowing the rod to absorb the retreating force of the prawn so that when the prawn gets tired of struggling, you can now lift it up from the water and you can meet you prey face to face.

In the middle of the fast-paced and busting life in Singapore, Jurong Hill Prawn Fishing is a place where people can energize with their family and friends. Prawning is an activity that originated from Taiwan and fishing prawns is actually not something popular before, but in recent years, more people have finally gotten an interest in the said activity. The Jurong Hill owner reveals that prawn fishing is actually just his hobby before and with this hobby, he was able to think about turning it into a business and when he finally established it, it became a place for fishing and a place where celebrations for Chinese New Year and National Day are held. As it is to be found near most tertiary schools, it is also suitable for students to arrange gatherings. He introduced different types of baits to be used such as live worms and small portions of chicken’s heart and he mentioned that some patrons favour to use live worms as they believe it increases the chances of baiting the prawns. There are two process of prawning and one is to let the float stay above the water and another to slowly lure the prawns by dragging the rod. It is important to look out for the float as it will sink when the prawn bites the bait and this is the time to strike the prawns. But success is still achieved through patience and practice.
