Oily skin is usually characterized by the shiny, thick and dull colored. More often than not, oily skin has embarrassing pores and pimples. Oily skin is Prone to blackheads; over active sebaceous glands producing oil that is little more than the comfort level. Causes of Oily Skin • Heredity • Diet • Hormone levels • Pregnancy • Birth control pills • Cosmetics you use • Humidity and hot weather Hormonal shifts in the adolescence have largely been blamed for this overactive sebaceous secretion. That is the reason; oily skin is commonly found skin type. Though, it can happen at any stage and contributing reasons have been stated above. As the age progress, sebaceous glands become less active over period of time. Pregnancy and menopause could also upset the oil balance and increase the oil secretion process of sebaceous glands. Some may have quite different skin type, called as combination skin where some areas maybe oily and other dry or normal. Oily skin needs special care than normal skins. Oily skin cleansing will require lot of tepid warm water and mild soap to keep the pores being clogged. It is better to avoid harsh skin care products that could make you feel comfortable for sometime but in long run it would cause flakiness. That could resulting into reactive seborrhea; an over activity of sebaceous glands to compensate the loss of natural oils. As said earlier, avoid harsh products that leave your skin dehydrated and teased. Harsh soaps and products will only make upper dermis to shrink. And the dryer layers restrict oil flow through the pores leading to blockage and breakouts. To cleanse oily skin, oil based products are better option to dissolve the sebum effectively. Oil free cosmetics and moisturizers help to maintain no greasy complexion. Decide your cleanser carefully. Keep away from heavy cleansing creams. Avoid the use of harsh soaps or cleansers. Use a pure soap without any artificial additives. Try an antibacterial cleansing lotion or a lightly medicated soap, and use it in combination with a water rich in minerals, not tap water. Avoid cleansers or lotions containing alcohol. After basic cleansing process, apply a natural oil-free moisturizer to keep the skin supple and smooth. Tepid warm water for washing your face, warm water dissolves skin oil better than cold water. For extreme oily skin, three or four daily cleansings may be in order and hopefully you won't need any moisturizing before you are 30 years old. Overnight Oil secretion will ultimately help your skin around face keep wrinkle free and well moisturized. During mild cleansing process, massage your skin with your fingertips, using an upward and outward motion. Be careful not to rub soap into the skin; it could clog pores. If your oily skin is scaly, you can often correct the problem by using a deep-cleaning exfoliant on alternate nights, and following the treatment with a light coating of moisturizer. At time your skin might get a little scaly. Best way to correct this situation by employing deep cleaning exfoliant on alternate nights, followed by moisturizer coating next morning. Mud masks could really help you get rid of excessive oils on the face. In case, if you have sensitive skin, avoid the earlier one and use white or rose colored clays. Occasionally, apply Moisturizing cream with antiseptic trait from time to time. Apply clarifying mask once or twice in a week. Before buying any cosmetics, it is rightly recommended to do patch test and choose cosmetic and facial care products specifically designed for oily skin. Before applying makeup, use an antiseptic day cream with active ingredients that diminish sebaceous secretions. Look for benzyl peroxide in the list of active ingredients.
