10/26/2011 - Meditation and Altered States of Conscience- a Brief Review and Introuction
Meditation is thought by some people to be a state of sitting by yourself on a mountain top, thinking the meaning of life. Fortunately, it is a great deal simplier and easier for us all to take part in this process of deep relaxation, for better health, well being in addition to an ability to overcome demanding situations. Even better, we don't simply have to deliberate the meaning of life. In fact, we can use technology to help us relax in an easier way. I will clarify the benefits and strategies to achieve an altered state of mind as well as give a few examples.
The human brain works by sending electrical waves at different frequencies from one part to other parts and when we are typically conscious, will be in what is recognized as a beta state. However, while we are sleeping, or in deep relaxation, we will be experiencing a slowed brain frequency at either theta or delta wave states. It can be said that when we are in a meditative state, we are in a deeply relaxed or calm state.
Have you ever heard of the phrase, 'sleeping on it', if you have a problem to solve? The reason I ask this is that the mind, in a subconscious state, actually is still incredibly 'busy' working out solutions to problems. This is normal for all of us, even though many of us may not recall the details when we wake the following morning. It is said by some, that we may even have used astral projection to resolve a predicament.
To describe this in more detail, astral projection is when the spirit of our being essentially leaves our body. This occurs to many of us when we are sleeping, however most people tend not to remember it on waking. Others of us will have heard of this happening if someone has temporarily died, such as during an operating theater when their hearts might have stopped, such as in cardiac arrest. Nevertheless, when we need a solution to a concern, it is a great idea to recite the concern before retiring for the night and then see if we have the answer the next morning. You will be amazed how regularly this works for people.
Now, even if we do not sleep on it, we can enter an altered state of mind to relax profoundly through the use of audio Discs recorded specially using technology methods like binaural beats. They are separate frequencies that are directed separately to our left and right ears that then join to develop a third harmonic frequency that influences our brain waves. This is a general system to adjust our mind state, although there are others as well.
Some people are avid users of the Reiki technique that is healing through the palms of the hands. Most people who use this system will see a Rreiki specialist, although several are able to be healed distantly through a master of Reiki who is able to project themselves to the person without being in the same room. This is completed by means of astral projection techniques as well.
I understand this is a very brief review, and a good deal more can be read in detailed texts on the topic. Nonetheless, even though these processes are different, each is in fact inter-related as well and each technique includes a bit of the other.
