12/4/2016 - Leftovers 'Moana,' 'Fantastic Beasts' rule box office again


LOS ANGELES (AP) — Audiences came back for a second helping of "Moana" and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" this weekend. Both family-friendly films topped the post-Thanksgiving box office charts with "Moana" bringing in $28.4 million and "Fantastic Beasts" earning $18.5 million, proper to studio estimates Sunday.

11/29/2016 - Robert De Niro's 'The Comedian' to open Capri Hollywood Film Festival


Robert De Niro's upcoming film "The Comedian" will open Italy's Capri Hollywood Film jubilee on December 27 with its continental first night reports The Hollywood Reporter. The movie stars De Niro as aging, has-been comic Jackie Burke, who gets a second lease of life and a second shot at his career after meeting Harmony, played by Leslie Mann. Directed by Taylor Hackford, the all-star cast also includes Edie Falco, Billy Crystal, Danny DeVito, Charles Grodin, Cloris Leachman, Harvey Keitel and Patti LuPone.

11/27/2016 - 'Moana' Tops Thanksgiving Box Office, 'Rules Don't Apply' Bombs, 'Allied' and 'Bad Santa 2' Stumble


Disney has released five of the year's ten highest grossing films, is the leader in terms of market share, and is poised to set a new record for annual grosses. Disney lineup chief Dave Hollis said that the success of "Moana" and others like it countenance the company's decision to make fewer films, while taking bigger bets. Paramount's "Allied" earned $18 million over the five-day period and $13 million for the weekend, a weak result given its $85 million budget.

By Brent Lang LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" overpowered the weekend box office, debuting to a boisterous $75 million and launching a new graphic franchise. It confirms Warner Bros.' high hopes for the real estate and its decision to back five installments in the fantasy series. "Fantastic Beasts" is a spinoff of the Harry Potter films, but instead of Hogwarts, it unfolds in 1920s New York City and puss* an entirely new cast of wizards and mythical creatures.

The feature refitting of Madeleine L'Engle's children's science-fantasy novel "A Wrinkle in Time" will hit theaters on April 6, 2018. Director Ava DuVernay revealed the movie's release date through a "mannequin challenge" video, where the entire cast and crew of over 200 members froze in tract for two minutes while the camera panned over them, before DuVernay appeared holding a sheet of paper with "April 6, 2018" written on it.

By Piya Sinha-Roy LOS ANGELES - Brad Pitt took to the red carpet at a fan event for his latest film "Allied" in Los Angeles on Wednesday, hours after he was cleared of child abuse allegations and applied for shared custody of his conveyance with Angelina Jolie. Pitt, 52, had kept a low profile after the Hollywood power couple, dubbed Brangelina, split abruptly in September coming an episode on a private plane in which Pitt was reported to have lost his temper in front of one or more of the children. Taiwanese-born filmmaker Ang Lee predicted Friday that the Chinese film market was about to explode, not only overtaking but dwarfing the star-spangled banner box office in a matter of years. The two-time Oscar winner said officers in the world's second economy used to rely on him as a bridge to Hollywood, but the newly-confident Chinese film bunch no longer finds it necessary. "It's huge, it's going to be bigger in a few years," the 62-year-old told reporters on the red carpet at the glitzy BAFTA Britannia Awards in Beverly Hills.
