4/24/2008 - NATO Funds Record Purchase of New Demron Nuclear Radiation-Blocking, Anti-Chemical and Biological-Protection Suits

NATO Funds Record Purchase of New Demron Nuclear Radiation-Blocking, Anti-Chemical and Biological-Protection Suits

Demron is an advanced radiopaque nano-polymeric compound fused between layers of fabric and manufactured into several lightweight, nuclear-blocking garments. Demron is used in full-body nuclear, biological, and nuclear-biological-chemical (NBC) suits, tactical anti-nuclear vests, high-energy nuclear suppression blankets, medical X-ray vests and aprons. It is the first and only product of its kind.
This purchase, which is the largest of its kind to date, is a powerful indicator of Demron's emerging market dominance as the world's first and only full-body, radiation-protection fabric that shields against X-ray and low-energy Gamma emissions while also providing complete anti-chemical and biological protection

Miami, FL (PRWEB) February 27, 2008 -- Ronald DeMeo, MD, MBA, president and chief executive officer with Radiation Shield Technologies (RST), today announced NATO's funding of a purchase of a record number of Demron nuclear radiation-blocking, anti-chemical and biological-protection suits. The suits, which will be deployed by the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus, are manufactured with RST's patented Demron technology, the first and only product of its kind.

"This purchase, which is the largest of its kind to date, is a powerful indicator of Demron's emerging market dominance as the world's first and only full-body, radiation-protection fabric that shields against X-ray and low-energy Gamma emissions while also providing complete anti-chemical and biological protection," said DeMeo, the surgeon who developed Demron. "The interest, positive reception and demand our technology is receiving from the government, military and first-response community have exceeded our expectations."

"Although for security and confidentiality reasons we cannot provide more details about NATO's purchase, we can say the sheer volume of suits purchased suggests that the deployment and leadership positioning of the Demron technology will continue to expand," said Jonathan Elkoubi, general manager with Safer America™, one of Demron's distributors. "Demron is considered the best and only technology of its kind available today. No other suits that protect against chemical and biological warfare offer any radiological protection."

More information about Safer America™ is available at www.saferamerica.com.

Demron suits are made from a unique nanotechnology that surpasses the current NBC suits, which provide limited protection against radioactive particulate sources. Demron, which has several U.S. and international patents, is a lead-free, toxin-free, and PVC-free nuclear-blocking material that allows heat dissipation and resists chemical permeation and cracks. Numerous universities and government laboratories have confirmed Demron's ability to block radiation.

    About Radiation Shield Technologies (RST):
Radiation Shield Technologies (RST), with headquarters in Miami, is a world leader in the research, design and production of personal-protection systems for ionizing and nuclear radiation. 4/18/2008 - Michael-Bruno Wins NATO Electrical Contractaqi Army

    Michael-Bruno Wins NATO Electrical Contract

NATO's Joint Forces Command has selected Michael-Bruno, LLC, to upgrade its electrical system.

Naples, Italy (PRWEB) January 18, 2005 -- Michael-Bruno, LLC, announced today that it has been awarded, along with Protecno Impianti S.r.l., its construction partner, a design-build electrical contract from the Joint Task Force (NATO) Command, in Naples, Italy.

"We exceptionally pleased to have been award,” explained Giuseppe Bruno, Executive Vice President, Michael-Bruno, LLC. "We've provided architectural design, engineering services, and construction management for the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe for 27 years, but this is our first business relationship with NATO."

Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples was activated on 15 March 2004, when Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH), its predecessor command, was deactivated after nearly 53 years of successful activity in support of peace and stability in and around its designated area of responsibility.

The electrical bid was announced in May, with 14 initial competitors. Partnering with Protecno Impianti S.r.l., an industry leader in electrical, mechanical and technical systems installation, was the key to a winning team.

"No design-build contracts were won on the merit of a single partner," said Bruno. "It's a team effort, which we plan to extend to other opportunities throughout Italy and Europe."

The design and construction work is expected to last one year.

4/14/2008 - Defense Solutions to Rebuild T-72 Tanks and Other Military Vehicles for the Iraqi Army

Defense Solutions to Rebuild T-72 Tanks and Other Military Vehicles for the Iraqi Army

Defense Solutions announced today that it reached agreement with the Iraq Ministry of Defense to rebuild seventy-seven T-72 main battle tanks and other military vehicles for the Army of Iraq. Defense Solutions will refurbish the tanks in Hungary under a US State Department license before NATO takes possession and ships them to Iraq.

(PRWEB) May 9, 2005 -- Defense Solutions announced today that it reached agreement with the Iraq Ministry of Defense to rebuild seventy-seven T-72 main battle tanks and other military vehicles for the Army of Iraq. The T-72 tanks were donated to Iraq by the Government of Hungary. Defense Solutions will refurbish the tanks in Hungary under a US State Department license before NATO takes possession and ships them to Iraq.

The T-72s are the main combat power of a new Iraqi Armor Division being created with the assistance of the US Army.

The Soviet-designed T-72 remains one of the world's best main battle tanks and is comparable to the original M-1 Abrams tank fielded to US forces beginning in 1980. The T-72s being provided to the Iraqi Army are the original model, have not been upgraded and are no match for the highly advanced Abrams M1A2 and the M1A2 SEP (System Enhancement Program) version used by the US Army.

The T-72s were deactivated by the Hungarian Army at the end of the Cold War and placed in long-term storage. Hungary, which became part of NATO in 1999, donated the tanks to Iraq with NATO approval.

Defense Solutions will refurbish the T-72 tanks to bring them to operational condition, test fire the main gun and other weapons systems, and conduct a cross county road test before releasing the equipment for shipment to Iraq. The contract is expected to take up to six months.

"When fielded, these tanks will help bring stability to Iraq, allow the Iraqi Army to assume more responsibility for its nation's security and hasten the day when US forces can come home," according to Defense Solutions' CEO Tim Ringgold, himself a retired US Army colonel and former mechanized brigade commander.

    About Defense Solutions, LLC

4/9/2008 - Intercede and Partners Secure Key NATO Summit with Smart Card-based Identities

Intercede and Partners Secure Key NATO Summit with Smart Card-based Identities

Intercede's MyID system used to manage the identities of 8,000 diplomats, conference delegation members, Latvian and NATO supporting units, security personnel and volunteers at the NATO Summit in Riga, 27-29 November, 2006.

Lutterworth, Leicestershire (PRWEB) December 6, 2006 -- Intercede are pleased to announce that Intercede's MyID system was used to manage the identities of 8,000 diplomats, conference delegation members, Latvian and NATO supporting units, security personnel and volunteers at the NATO Summit in Riga, 27-29 November, 2006.

This solution was primed by Oberthur Card Systems and delivered to the Ministry of Defence of Latvia in partnership with Intercede and Fargo. Intercede provided a complete system to personalise, issue and verify Oberthur smart card-based identity cards at this major international event. Each Oberthur smart card was colour-coded according to role and security clearance, printed with a photograph of the card holder, secured with holograms and other security printing features to prevent forgery, and the electronic chip was personalized to enable secure cardholder verification.

A compelling aspect of the solution was the ability to both request batches of smart cards from Oberthur's centralized card production service and to also securely produce locally personalized cards on Fargo desktop printers. This enabled the bulk production of cards ordered in advance and an on-demand issuance capability for late registrations from the same system.

Key features of the system include:

    *   The MyID registration workstations were smart card protected to prevent the issuance of cards by unauthorized people
    *   Bulk data import of card requests into the MyID from other systems
    *   Immediate face-to-face issuance of emergency replacement cards
    *   Instant identity card verification at up to 20 NATO Summit buildings and checkpoints using MyID card validation stations. Each verification station was securely connected to the MyID verification server using secure channels over the public internet.

In a press conference held on 29 November 2006, NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, praised the Latvian Government for their flawless organization of the Riga Summit. Intercede is proud to be associated with this success.

"With 26 Heads of State in attendance, conference security was of paramount concern. I am therefore delighted that the Latvian Government chose Intercede and our partners to provide a critical piece of the security infrastructure for this event," said Richard Parris, Chairman and Chief Executive, Intercede. "Following our recently announced successes in the US Federal market, this demanding project further demonstrates that Intercede's MyID smart card and identity management system has the flexibility and scalability to meet the most critical government security requirements."

    About the 2006 NATO Summit
The Riga Summit of 2006 attracted key NATO heads of State including George W. Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair. The Riga Summit of 2006 was the first summit involving Latvia as a full member of the NATO Alliance, reference http://www.rigasummit.lv.

3/26/2008 - Georgia says NATO should not bow to Russian pressure
Georgia says NATO should not bow to Russian pressure
    Wednesday, March 26, 2008

BRUSSELS, Belgium: NATO leaders risk enflaming regional tensions if they bow to Russian pressure and block the membership aspirations of Ukraine and Georgia at a summit next week, Georgia's foreign minister warned Wednesday.

David Bakradze said a snub at the April 2-4 summit in Bucharest, Romania, would encourage hawks in Moscow to continue to support breakaway regions in Georgia, and undermine Western-minded reformists.

"'No' in Bucharest will be very clearly seen by some people in Moscow as their success, and it will be very clearly seen in Moscow that they have indirect veto right on NATO decisions," Bakradze told reporters before visiting NATO headquarters.

Georgia and Ukraine have asked the NATO summit to grant them a "membership action plan," which would set out a path to membership.

Moscow is bitterly opposed. President Vladimir Putin has threatened to aim nuclear weapons at Ukraine if it joins NATO and accepts the deployment of anti-missile defenses on its territory. The Russian parliament last week urged the Kremlin to consider recognizing the independence of two separatist regions in Georgia, part of a campaign to keep it out of NATO.

NATO is split over the issue. The United States, Canada and eastern European members are backing Ukraine and Georgia. Germany is leading Western European opposition, warning that granting the membership plan would torpedo hopes of improving relations with Russia as Putin prepares to hand over to Dmitry Medvedev.

Diplomats at NATO headquarters said talks were under way "at the highest level" between Washington and Berlin to find an agreement. They said some Western European nations had shifted recently toward support for Ukraine and Georgia, but said the two countries did not have the unanimous support needed to move ahead on the membership track.

The diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity as the talks are sensitive. They said the summit could produce a statement of support of the membership bids of Ukraine and Georgia and offer them increased cooperation, while stopping short of granting the formal membership program.

Bakradze said that was unacceptable, and warned that NATO's much vaunted "open door" policy to European democracies would be seriously weakened if his country's bid is rejected.

"Bucharest will be a test case for NATO, whether NATO will be able to successfully continue to safeguard these two key principles: open door and no veto for nonmember states," he said.

Russia opposes the eastward expansion of NATO, and it is particularly keen to keep out Ukraine and Georgia - strategically important neighbors on key East-West energy routes around the Black Sea.

Western European diplomats have argued that the timing of the push by Ukraine and Georgia is unfortunate, since NATO's relations with Russia are already strained over Kosovo's independence and U.S. plans to base missile defenses in eastern Europe.

    Bakradze rejected those arguments.

"From all our experience with Russians, the most effective policy with Russians is policy based on principles, not on appeasement," he warned.

If NATO opens up to Georgia and Ukraine, it will help end the separatist conflicts and boost stability in the whole Black Sea region, Bakradze insisted.

Putin is due to attend part of the NATO summit and is scheduled to meet U.S. President George W. Bush separately in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on April 6, for what is expected to be their last encounter before the Russian leader steps down.
