Teen Pleads Guilty in Paris Hilton Phone Hacking Case
A Massachusetts Teen pleaded guilty to hacking into Ms. Hilton phone and stealing her address book, thus exposing it to the public. T-Mobile was the company which servers have been compromised in this attack, they were plantiffs in the suit.
The 17-year old was sentenced to 11 months in a juvenile facility and also a 2-year supervised release, after his release from the juvenile faciltiy.
The kid used an old technique called "social engineering" in the hacking world. This was an old technique which became popular in the 70's by recognized hackers. The technique involves calling a company and getting sensitive information, from unsuspecting and unaware employees...in my opinion most of it is incompetence. I'm not aware of what the teen said to obtain sensitive information but it is a fact that he did use social engineering, which was the key piece in the case. Usually, when someone uses social engineering they target large corporations who have hundreds or thousands of employees and they call multiple departments or locations within that corporation posing as an employee in another location or in the field.
This teen has a rap sheet of hacking crimes which he permitted along with his hacking associates "Defonic Team Screen Name Club", this 8-10 team is said to be responsible for a number of hacks and security threats on the web.
