11/30/2011 - Start Your Container Garden With Easy Vegetables To Grow
Posted in Unspecified

Gardening is work no matter how you do it, but container gardening is less work once you get it all set up. Every year you plant it will get easier and faster as you find a system that works best for you. Organic gardens work great when planted in containers as well.

Almost any vegetable you can think of can be planted in containers, yet some don't grow as well. In fact, some plants are ideally suited for containers, especially if you want an organic container garden. Nutrients, physical support, and water are the three main things you need to be successful. Good drainage goes along with watering the plants, and remember too much water is just as harmful and too little water.

Besides knowing which vegetables you can grow easily in a container garden you need to know about what type of soil to use. The best way to plant in containers is by using synthetic or soil-less mixes. This type of soil will keep your plants free of disease and weed seeds. And the containers will not be as heavy, in case you need to move them.

Easy Vegetables To Grow

Tomato and Pepper Varieties

These varieties of plants are extremely easy to work with and produce a lot of food. Some of these plants grow over two feet tall and will need a large container so they won't be top heavy. You can put chicken wire around the container if you don't want the veggies growing outside the pot, but it's not necessary.

Tomatoes and peppers continue to bloom even after you start picking and this will give you a continuous supply for a while.

Lettuce

You will love having your own lettuce to make fresh salads every single day. Plant your lettuce in a small pot because you will only get one head per container. You can have lettuce all the time by planting lots of pots, but planting them a couple of weeks apart so they will be ready to eat at different times.

Onions and Radishes

These types of vegetables grow the main part underneath the ground and you see only the stems and leaves. They don't need a large pot and grow fairly quick.

Herbs

Have fun using the herb pots for decorating your home since they are such pretty plants. Snip off what you need and cook with completely fresh herbs!

There are other easy vegetables to grow as well, such as squash, eggplant, garlic chives, spinach and beets. However, the vegetables listed above will make you a great salad and growing them yourself will make all your food taste even better. Don't wait any longer, start your very own container garden today.
