Career (Interview)
This week in PERSEF1, we talked about our career. A career is different from a job. A job is like a temporary thing, while a CAREER is something that takes time. You need to develop your skills and you need to continue learning your chosen career. We had to interview a person who finished a course same as ours. So I interviewed my godmother, Nancy Ocampo. She is 55 yrs. old and finished her course, BS-Psychology and BS General (Pre-med) at the University of Sto. Tomas.
My godmother is a Managing Associate in an Executive Search Firm. Basically, she handles recruitment and executives (Manager and President) of client companies. Practically she's in the Human Resources field. I also want to pursue in that field if ever I won't study SPED (course to be taken up if I want to teach special children). Her skills and interests are assuming people, relating with different types of personalities and writing. These are useful in her current jobe since she used to evalutate and match capabilities and personalities of applicants to the job specifications of the clients. Writing is utilized in handling administrative tasks and report writing. However, the skill that is most useful to her is the ability to undertand behavior of individuals. I also asked her what she liked and didn't like about her job. She said that she is not too keen on the human development aspect her job. But it is necessary and it has to be performed just the same. Then for my last question, I asked her if given a chance, would she like to change her career/job. She answered that in the past she did had opportunities to shift career but she decided to stay in her career. It gave her a lot of opportunitites to continuously learn and develop herself as she interacts with different professionals who are successful in their own fields.
From this interview, I was able to have a peek into what my future jobs might be. Most probably I would go into Human Resources just the same. I am still deciding. But one thing's for sure, I would definitely stick to my course! Iam open to other job opportunities but I would really like to work with people. I was able to realize that even if one really has the passion for his/her career, they would still choose their career over other better opportunities. Even if my godmother said that she was offered other careers, I still think I would do the same thing. Turn them down. This interview just strengthened my interest in my course. I am learning to love it despite the hardships that I am and will go through. Deciding for a career is tough. But keeping your desired career is even harder. There may be other jobs that I could take that will give me a good salary, but I choose not to make it as my career since it is not realted to my course and interest. I don't know what got me into liking people, but I am decided that this is what I want to do. I see myself working with people and not with any machines or computers. I would prefer seeing and talking to humans that talk and have feelings, than to work with computers that won't even tell me if I'm stressing them out or if I'm working too much. PEOPLE is my interest and I would want to help those who need attention. What motivates me to continue my dream/career?---->>The urge to help others in any way I can. I want to help them discover who they are and how unique and special human beings they are.
