Etiquette (Progress Plan)
After the discussion we had about Etiquette, we were asked to look for good etiquette or bad etiquette in school. Then for our output this week, we need to make a progress plan on how to promote good manners or etiquette in the university.
The CLAYGO is a good idea and a good way to show etiquette. Cleaning up after your trash is a way to show that one is responsible. I think that CLAYGO should still be encouraged by the university. Also the trash labeled as Biodegradable and Non-Biodegradable. This way, even the disposal of trash would be organized and the garbage wouldn't smell really awful.
However, if I were to make a program to promote good etiquette, it would be something like encouraging the students to greet not only their professors, but other faculty and staff as well. The security guards and other personnel should also be greeted by the students. I think its very courteous when guards greet me "good morning" after scanning my ID and entering the building. I greet them "good morning" as well. Students should also turn off the air-con and lights in the room, especially when they are the last class to use it. Lining up in the elevator and not pushing each other is also another way of showing good manners. Even in the conservatory, library, or in the study hall, the students should talk silently since the place is a place of study. They should learn how to respect other students, because they aren't the only ones who are using the place.
I think it would be difficult to create programs that promote good etiquette. So instead, these simple acts of kindness, respect and courtesy would be my alternative. These small acts could have a big impact if all the students would be practicing them. "Great things come from small beginnings". These simple gestures would be a way to promote good etiquette, it would also show the concern that students have for the university. Good etiquette would mean that one is aware of others. Students should be aware of the people around them, especially the faculty and staff since they are the ones whom we see and interact with everyday. It just feels good to show them that we are aware of their works. And through these actions, we would make them feel that they are appreciated. That is how I would prmote good etiquette in the university. Good etiquette means good relationship and interaction with others.
