Since I quit drinking a few monthes ago, I have noticed more and more how addicted people are to alcohol. I have also noticed how easily these people shrug it off.
I think people forget over time that alcohol is a drug, the same as pills and weed, coke and heroin. Not only is it a drug, but it's one of the more dangerous drugs that we ingest. While most drugs merely interact with brain cells by "tickling" their receptors, alcohol outright bombards those receptors with toxins causing the brain cell to have mini-seizures and die.
Ouch.
My girlfriend told me that when she first met and hung out with our downstairs neighbor, he was heard to remark, "Alcohol and tobacco are the only drugs I do, the American drugs."
I laughed when I heard that. I guess thats true since those are definetely the two most popular drugs in America right now.
Personally, I refer to something else when speaking about these two drugs:
Population Control.
In 2000 there were approximately 85,000 alcohol related deaths. And even more tobacco related deaths. I believe these two drugs, as potent and addicting as meth or crack or heroin, are kept legal to keep the low income population in check.
We all know what happens when big brother takes away our booze... (see Prohibition)
As long as we have our bottle to escape into, as long as we can inhale our stress away, and as long as we keep croaking by the thousands, they will stay legal.
And if you think thats fucked up, wait until you here this:
Marihuana has, and still has up to this very day, killed exactly zero people.
Thats right, zero.
My name is Joe and it's been 3 monthes since I've had a drink and 10 monthes since I've had a cigarette.
