The New Age Occult Movement - 8:59 PM, 3/5/2008 |
Bernard Pyron
There are New Age Occultists who do not claim to be Christians. Then there are New Age Occultists who are interested in some Scriptures in the Bible. And some of these New Age Occultuists do claim to be Christians and may think they are, but have not come out of the occult. A few of those within the New Age Occult movement have been allowed to have an influence on movements within the Christian churches, especially within the Emerging or Networking church under Rick Warren and others. Finally, there are some people who have been church goers, thought they were following Christ but have now bought into some beliefs and practices of the New Age Occult movement. There are also a few followers of mystics who post teachings on Christian Yahoo groups that appear to be Christian but never or almost never quote the Bible.
The New Age Occultists who have no interest in being Christians cannot be considered part of Christianity. But what about those New Age Occultists who cite Scripture and claim to be Christians but have not repented of occult teachings and practices? Occult teachings and practices are a serious kind of false teachings for Christians to have.
The question is, can some of the New Age Occultists who think they are Christians be considered as within the three part division of God's people as seen in Ezekiel 5: 1-12, Zechariah 13: 8-9 and Revelation 16: 19? Will these people be judged along with all non- believers in the great white throne judgment of Revelation 20: 11-15, or will some of them be judged as Christians in apostasy during the time of the Trumpet Judgments? Those in apostasy will be divided into three groups, only one of which is predicted to cry out to the Lord in repentance and he accepts them.
Fifty or sixty years ago the New Age Occult movement could not have gotten a foothold in American Christianity. The false theology of dispensationalism was going on back then, but still Christians had enough discernment left to reject the occult. But the counterculture began in about 1962, ran into the seventies and then spread into the broader popular culture. The New Age Occult movement which came on the popular scene in the early seventies spread into the bigger American culture with the counterculture. By 1990 or even earlier many American Christians had been led to accept forms of the occult such as astrology, Transcendental Meditation and other beliefs and practices of the occult.
BLINDSIDED BY THE NEW AGE OCCULTISTS
There is some evidence that the British ruling elite and members of the ruling class promoted the New Age Occult movement in the United States during the 20th century. They also promoted the use of LSD, and the drug movement after 1962, and the rock music that was a vital part of the counterculture. For example, Marilynn Ferguson is said to have been a protogee of Willis Harmon of the Stanford Research Institute of Stanford University. Marilynn Ferguson was a New Age Occult leader who wrote The Aquarian Conspiracy (1980). Willis Harmon was influenced by the Tavistock Institute of England, which was part of the British elite, to introduce a counterculture in the U.S. that would weaken Christianity and the American family. Aldous Huxley - of the British Elite ruling class - was important in creating the LSD or drug movement in both California and in the Boston area through his protogees Gregory Bateson, Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert. The Tavistock Institute had come under the influence of Sigmund Freud and several other change agents like Kurt Lewin, all psychologists, who operated from within Tavistock Institute to bring us the sex liberation movement, group dynamics, group therapy, and the encounter group movement. What dean Gotcher calls "Diaprax<" the use of the Hegelian dialectic to change attitudes and behavior was part what Tavistock gave us.
In addition, the Frankfurt, Germany Institute for Social Research, known as the Frankfurt School, followed both Freud and Marx. They taught stealth Marxism, or cultural Marxism, to be brought about by non-violent means. Theodore W. Adorno in his 1950 book, The Authoritarian Personality, which claimed to be on personality and social psychology, said that Christianity and the strong family create the authoritarian personality. The authoritarian personality causes fascism or Nazisism. Herbert Marcuse, another member of the Frankfurt School, promoted the New Left and the sex liberation movement as part of the counterculture. Adorno, Marcuse and others of the Frankfurt School sought to weaken Christianity and the family. They saw Christianity and the family as being the sources of the cohesiveness of the older American Belonger Culture. By helping to create the counterculture they were working to severely weaken Christianity and the family, and, in turn, the cohesiveness of American culture. The members of the Frankfurt School operated from within major American universities. I believe Adorno was at the University of California at Berkeley and Marcuse was first at Brandeis University and later at one of the California universities. To some extent all of this promotion of the counterculture grew out of the 19th century British elite. There were a number of clubs, societies and secret societies within which the late 19th century British elites worked.
The Cambridge Ghost Society and the Society For Psychical Research which the two Anglican theologians Brook Foss Westcott and Fenton Anthony Hort helped create were two of these societies. These societies studied and promoted occult phenomena. The elite English Fabian Society, the English socialists, were another group. The Coefficients Club was created by Beatrice and Sidney Webb who were in the Fabian Socialist movement. The Coficients Club included Bertrand Russell, H.G. Wells and the politician Arthur Balfour.
Cecil Rhodes, an important leader of what is now called the New World Order, organized a secret society in 1891 which apparently included Lord Rothschild of England, a member of the ruling elite. Arthur Balfour and Lord Rothschild were also members of the Apostles Club which included Westcott, Hort, Henry Sidgwick and others of the Society for Psychical Research. Thus, some of the members of the British ruling class - Westcott and Hort and others - were joined in this club by a member of the ruling elite, the small group at the top. On http://blessedquietness.com/journal/prophecy/cnp-3.htm they say "...the plan for the State of Israel was formulated in the secret societies of Great Britain." Lord Rothschild was one point of entry for Zionism into the British elites. The English Balfour Declaration - of Arthur Balfour - of November 1917, and the sending of British troops to Palestine gave the Zionist movement an early victory. The same British elites helped to create dispensationalism within American Christianity, to make that theology which supports Jewish Supremacy and physical, unsaved Jews, into a Christian Zionist movement to further the cause of Zionism. See http://p205.ezboard.com/fmindcontroldiscussionforumfrm26.showMessage? topicID=2.topic
So the promotion of the occult within the late 19th century British elites was just a part of a broader effort in the 20th century by the same elites, or their sons, to create an American counterculture to weaken Christianity and the family.
The Nineteenth Century Occult Revival, A Major Forerunner of the New Age Occult Movement
Helena Blavataky (1831-1891), principal founder of the Theosophical Society, was part of the 19th century English occult revival. So were the two Anglican theologians, Brook Foss Westcott (1825-1903) and Fenton Anthony Hort (1828-1892), who created the Westcott-Hort Greek New Testament text of 1881. This Greek text is the basis for almost all modern New Testament versions, including the "never inspired version," the NIV.
On www.britannica.com they say "Another movement influenced in part by Hinduism is the Theosophical Society. Founded in New York City in 1875 by Helena Blavatsky of Russia, it was originally inspired by Kabbala (Jewish esoteric mysticism), gnosticism (esoteric salvatory knowledge), and other forms of Western occultism."
In the late 19th century Helena Blavatsky announced the coming of the New Age. Probably most loyal followers of the New Bible versions and Westcott and Hort - the riders on the wrecking machine - will deny that the two Anglican theologians played any role in the 19th century English Occult Revival. So we should be careful to identify the sources for the claim that Westcott and Hort were important figures in the 19th century English occult movement.
Alan Gauld in The Founders of Psychical Research, 1968, Schocken Books, says "Cambridge professor Fenton John Antony Hort, Anglican clergyman Brooke Foss Westcott, and the future Archbishop of Canterbury, Edward White Benson, founded the Ghost Society in 1851." According to W.H. Salter in The Society For Psychical Research, An Outline of Its History, Society for Psychical Research, 1948, p. 8 says "The original objective of the Society for Psychical Research ( S.P.R.) was to conduct research into that large group of debatable phenomena designated by such terms as mesmeric, psychical and spiritualisic. Committees were organized to examine telepathy, hypnotism, mesmeric trance, clairvoyance, ESP, apparations, haunted houses, and to determine the laws of psychical spiritualistic phenomena. In recognition of the important work accomplished by Benson, Westcott and Hort - the leaders of its precursor, the Cambridge Ghost Socity...."
Arthur Westcott, the son of Brooke F. Westcott, in his book, Life and Letters of Brooke Foss Westcott, Macmillan and Company, 1896, Vol 1, p 118, says of his father that "His devotion with ardour is indicated in a "Ghostly Circular" authorized by him, "The interest and importance of a serious and earnest inquiry into the nature of the phenomena which are vaguely called supernatural will scarcely be questioned (so says Brooke F. Westcott)."
Arthur Westcott wrote in the same book on page 118 that Brooke F. Westcott said in the "Ghostly Circular" that "But there are many others who believe it possible that the beings of the unseen world may manifest themselves in extraordinary ways."
The son of Fenton Hort, Arthur Hort, in Life and Letters of Fenton John Anthony Hort, Macmillan, 1896, Vol 1, pp. 170-172 wrote that his father was active in "Two other societies...in both of which Hort seems to have been the moving spirit...the other called... the Ghostly Guild. The object was to collect and classify authenticated instances of what are now called psychical phenomena."
Helena P. Blavatsky in Isis Unveiled, Vol II, Theosophical University Press, 1891, 1988, p. 243 says of Westcott that "We cannot believe that such a learned commentator as canon Westcott could have left himself in ignorance as to Talmudistic and purely Kabalistic writings. How then is it that we find him quoting, with such serene assurance, as presenting "striking analogies to the Gospel of St. John," passages from the work of The Pastor of Hermas, which are complete sentences from Kabalistic literature."
There is a reference which says that the Society for Psychical Research held seances and interviewed Blavatsky. "In its early stages, the S.P.R. (Society For Psychical Research) held séances in the townhouse of Arthur Balfour of which his sister Eleanor was the principle organizer. Various mediums of reputation were investigated with the purpose of ruling out charlatans and determining if entities from the spirit realm or deceased persons did in fact communicate with the living. In 1884, Madame H.P. Blavatsky, founder of the Theosophical Society, was interviewed by a committee of the S.P.R....the S.P.R. was at first -- "…considerably impressed by the evidence of Mme Blavatsky and her friends..." From: W.H. Salter, The Society For Psychical Research, An Outline of it's History, London, 1948, pp 21-22.
In addition, the Society For Psychical Research sponsored a number of seance settings from 1889 to 1890 by spirit medium Leonora Piper of Boston, and by Rosalee Thompson, a British spirit medium in 1897 and 1898. There are a few links on Google to these seances held by the Society For Psychical Research. Type in the names of the two spirit mediums above and "Society For psychical Research."
In studying the occult, the Anglican theologians and other members of the English elite class made the occult more acceptable. This same process seems to have happened in the seventies and eighties when American psychologists and communications professors studied hard core pornography. They made pornography more acceptable, not only to the college students they showed it to, but also to others.
Psychologist Leonard Berkowitz of the University of Wisconsin and Ed Donnerstein showed a porno movie of two men tying up and raping a woman. This is reported in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 1981.
Dolf Zillman and Jennings Bryant, in the Department of Broadcast and Film Communications at the University of Alabama, also showed hard core porno to college students as research. The professors found that students habituate to some extent to seeing explicit heterosexuality, and find deviant sexuality and sado massochism more acceptable than before viewing non-deviant heterosexual sex.
Acceptance of porno came in on the heels of the counterculture, and was part of the process of breaking down Christian morality and weakening the family. The Dot Com Culture on the Internet has helped to spread acceptance of pornography. Getting more people to accept pornography is only one part of the plan of Ol Scratch to undermine the following of the Lord. Bernard
Many New Age Occult Channelers
The New Age Occult movement became a part of the counterculture of the sixties and seventies. But there were occult influences upon the counterculture before the New Age Occult arrived in the early and middle seventies. The drug movement under Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert brought in Hindu religion - and the hippies were into drugs as well as astrology. Those of us who remember the counterculture remember that people back then were always taking about what signs each person was born under.
John Coleman - who was in British Intelligence - lists as one goal of the ruling elite operating through the "Committee to 300" the creation of a counterculture and an "aquarian conspiracy." Coleman states that the purpose of Goal 10 was "To weaken the moral fiber of the nation and to demoralize workers in the labor class by creating mass unemployment. As jobs dwindle due to the post industrial zero growth policies introduced by the Club of Rome, the report envisages demoralized and discouraged workers resorting to alcohol and drugs. The youth of the land will be encouraged by means of rock music and drugs to rebel against the status quo, thus undermining and eventually destroying the family unit. In this regard, the Committee commissioned Tavistock Institute to prepare a blueprint as to how this could be achieved. Tavistock directed Stanford Research to undertake the work under the direction of Professor Willis Harmon. This work later became known as the "Aquarian Conspiracy"." See http://educateyourself.org/cn/johncolemangoalsofIlluminati.shtml for the quote above and other goals of thje Committee of 300.
The goal was to encourage the youth of the land ".. by means of rock music and drugs to rebel against the status quo, thus undermining and eventually destroying the family unit." At the same time, the goal was to severely weaken Christianity in America and its influence upon society and culture. The hippies were interested in sex, drugs and an anti-Christian attitude. I know some guys in their late sixties or even older who were hippies in the sixties, but who are still highly anti-Christian.
The "Aquarian Conspiracy" refers mainly to the New Age Occult movement. Marilynn Ferguson was a protégé of Willis Harmon of Stanford Research Institute of Stanford University. The influential 1980 book, The Aquarian Conspiracy, was written by New Age Occult leader Marilynn Ferguson.
Marilynn Ferguson was part of the "Aquarian Conspiracy" to use the New Age Occult movement to weaken Biblical Christianity and spiritually dumb down the New Agers and the somewhat allied Environmentalist movement. The New Age Occultists follow absurd teachings by Alice Bailey, Barbara Marx Hubbard and several other New Age occult leaders, and generally don't think for themselves or check out what their leaders are saying by the Bible.
The counterculture spread into the larger popular American popular culture in the late seventies and afterward. It was a major platform for the New Age Occult movement to enter into American life and culture. And so the New Age Occult became popularized within American culture through the media and by personal contacts. Remember that New Age Occultists tend to blindly follow whatever irrational or absurd teachings the New Age leaders provide for them. The elite wanted to dumb down the people spiritually as well as intellectually.
Many Channelers
Hebrews 10: 38-39 is a Scripture that applies to the New Age Occultists, as well as to others who are in great apostasy in the end times. "Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back into perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul."
The New Age Occultists draw back from the truth in the Bible into perdition. They sometimes use the language of the Bible in a misleading fashion, and a few even deal with Scripture in a false way which is deceiving and confusing. Perdition is Strong's Exhaustive Concordance number 684. It is said in Strong's to mean "ruin or loss (physical, spiritual or eternal), damnable...perish...waste."
Before the arrival of the New Age Occult movement on the scene in the early and mid seventies, only a small number of spirit mediums talked to demon spirits. But during the last three to four decades a large number of people have been receiving communications from the spirit world. This is now called channeling. Many New Age Occult channelers receive messages on doctrines and future events from demon spirits they identify as "Jesus" or someone else. New Agers do not often try to contact the human dead, like spirit mediums of the past did. But it is the same practice of contacting demon spirits that is forbidden in the Bible.
Alice A. Bailey channeled a demon spirit and wrote a number of books on New Age Occult doctrine using what this demon was supposed to have told her. Alice Bailey lived from 1880 to 1949 and the New Age Occult movement is to a great extent based on her teachings. The Bible forbids contacting demon spirits, often called familiar spirits.
Leviticus 19: 31 says "Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God."
Then, Leviticus 20: 6 warns that " And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people."
A "familiar spirit" is a demon spirit who is familiar to a spirit medium. It is a spirit that is under the control of Satan.
Isaiah 19: 1, 3 says: "The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it... 3 And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards." God promises to do away with the wisdom of Egypt and to give the Egyptians over to the worship of idols and to communication with familiar spirits, that is, with demon spirits.
Note that Isaiah 19: 1-3 refers to "the spirit of Egypt." This is a spirit of apostasy, of rejecting Biblical truth for false doctrines. The New Age Occultists are operating in the spirit of Egypt. Its the spirit of antichrist (I John 4: 2-3).
During the nineteen sixties and seventies Jane Roberts channeled a demon spirit. Jane Roberts was playing around with a Ouija Board when The spirit, introduced himself to her. Later Roberts would write what the demon said to her, and even later it apparently used the vocal cords of Roberts to speak. This channeling resulted in a number of books by Jane Roberts on the teachings of the demon.
A high priestess of the New Age Occult, Barbara Marx Hubbard, has been channeling a demon spirit for a number of years. Hubbard, says the spirit she channeled revealed to her that there will be a "Planetary Pentecost," a "Quantum leap" in the spiritual evolution of mankind.
Benjamin Creme is another New Age Occult leader and channeler of a demon spirit.he calls "Christ" the "Maitreya," head of the spiritual hierarchy. Creme also used what he claims the demon told him to write books about New Age Occult doctrine. David Spangler, who lived at the Findhorn Community in Scotland, is another channeler. Spangler who also wrote a book based upon his channeling.
Neale Donald Walsch, a former radio talk show host and public relations man, channels "God." He claims he wrote God an angry letter and then "God started taking to him. Walsh wrote down what "God" told him for several years which resulted in his book Conversations With God.
In June of 1978, Bernie Siegel, a doctor in Connecticut, attended a workshop held by Oncologist O. Carl Simonton and Simonton's wife psychologist Stephanie Matthews. The Simonton's taught Bernie Siegal how to meditate, and they showed him how to meditate in a way which helped him make contact with a spirit guide. Siegal learned to channel.
Some of the New Age Occult leaders who channel demon spirits call the spirits "Christ." In a follow the leader blindly way, less well known channelers also call their demons "Christ." Bernard
The New Age Occult Elimination Plan
John Randolph Price and Barbara Marx Hubbard say their demon spirit guides have told them that there must be a "selection process," to get rid of people who have "lower vibratory rates" and who resist "evolving" into New Age Occultists. This means that those who reject the New Age Occult will be eliminated.
John Randolph Price says "These individuals with their lower vibratory rates will be removed during the next two decades." Quoted in: Michaelson, Johanna. Like Lambs to the Slaughter, Harvest House, Eugene Oregon, 1989, Appendix. New Age Occultist Robert Muller, who is or was with the United Nations, says that persons "...who hold contrary beliefs to those favored in he "next phase of evolution" will disappear. See Robert Muller, 2000, Ideas and Dreams.
Barbara Marx Hubbard, the high priestess of the New Age Occult, says "The great reaper must reap before we can take the quantum leap to the next phase of evolution...Evolution empowers the horseman upon the red horse to kill that which cannot love God." She says "We are in charge of God's selection process for Planet Earth. he selects, we destroy. We are the riders of the pale horse, Death."
Much of what Barbara Marx Hubbard says on the "Selection Process" communicated to her by her channeled demon spirit is in her Happy Birth Day Planet Earth: The Instant of Co-Optation, Ocean Tree Books, 1986, p.23, p 31, The Revelation: A Message of Hopre for he Millennium, 1995, p. 111, p. 303, and The Book of Co-Creation Part II - The Promise Will Be Kept By the Gospels, The Acts, The Epistles, 1993, p. 299. Price's quote is in Michaelson, Johanna. Like Lambs to the Slaughter, Harvest House, Eugene Oregon, 1989.
Hubbard is making use of Revelation 6: 8 which describes a pale or green horse whose rider is Death and Hell. She also talks about "God" being in charge of the population reduction process. But be careful. She is using some Biblical language to fool those who don't know the Bible very well and don't have a love for its truth.
In another of her books, Hubbard talks about "...the elimination of the ego-driven godless one-fourth..." She is calling those who oppose the New Age Occult the "ego-driven godless one fourth." Most likely Christians who oppose the New Age Occult will be targets for elimination if the New Age Occultists have their way. We are the "ego-driven godless one fourth." The New Agers are the "unselfish God-loving three fourths."
"You are a slow learner, Winston,' said O'Brien gently. 'How can I help it?' he blubbered. 'How can I help seeing what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four.' 'Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder. It is not easy to become sane.' " With apologies to George Orwell.
Neither John Randolph Price nor Barbara Marx Hubbard say who is to do the killing of the people with the "lower vibratory rates" or the "ego-driven Godless one fourth."
Most likely the New Age Occult leaders would try to become so influential upon society and government that they can get the government or others in society to do the killing for them. A greatly empowered new form of the United Nations would probably continue the present UN policy to eliminate the world's population - and so getting rid of those enemies of the New Age Occultists would fit this policy. In addition, government, including the United Nations, will probably make use of the Jewish Noahide laws or hate speech laws in condemning Christians to execution.
We should pay attention to what the leaders of the New Age Occult movement are saying about the elimination of the one fourth who oppose the New Age. This plan reveals something crazy and evil about the New Age leaders that those who are bringing their teachings into some of the Christian Churches do not want to be made too public. Bernard
Infiltration of Organized Christianity By the New Age Occultists
In her book Externalization of the Hierarchy, Section 4, Alice Bailey says "It is surely easier to swing the masses into step and give them the newer light of truth if that light is poured on to familiar ground." She claims she got the plan to infiltrate Christianity from channeling a demon spirit. The organized Christian Church with its traditions, theologies and practices is that "familiar ground." Alice Bailey presented the outlines of a plan for the New Age Occultists to infiltrate the Christian churches many years before the New Age occult movement appeared with the counterculture in the seventies. Bailey's plan was to leave the outward form of the Church intact. As Paul says in II Timothy 3: 5 the Church under the influence of he New Age Occult would have "...a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof..." The Church under an extremist classical dispensationalist two house theology such as that of John Hagee's new doctrines would also have a form of godliness but would not the power of God in it. Under the New Age Occult, the teachings of the Christian Church would be twisted and bent to spread the New Age Gospel, which is from the spirit of antichrist (I John 4: 3).
We are beginning to come across New Age Occultists who not only use Biblical language to some extent but who also cite Scriptures and talk about Christian doctrines. But the New Agers are often misleading in their interpretation of Biblical doctrines. Their messages confuse rather than proclaim the word of God in a clear way. There is also a new kind of Christian, in addition to the demon spirit channeling New Agers who try to pose as Christians to undiscerning believers.
The "Aquarian Christian" will mix New Age Occult teachings with Christian beliefs. The Aquarian Christian remains in his or her home church and professes the Gospel of Christ, but has taken in some aspects of the New Age mindset.
New Age occult writer David Spangler says "The point is that the New Age is here...It builds itself and forms itself in the midst of the old."
"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (I Timothy 4: 1-2)"
"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.(II Timothy 3: 13)"
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;(II Timothy 4: 3)"
In the end times the way to grow huge mega Churches is to pretend to preach the Gospel while presenting what many in the large congregations want to hear. What many want to hear with their itching ears is the New Age occult message in Christian language saying there is no such thing as sin, no hell, and that we can "evolve" into higher spiritual beings. These huge mega Churches who have incorporated aspects of the New Age tend to avoid end time prophecy.Unity of the "Christians" is their goal, which is unity in apostasy. Rick Warren tells people to avoid getting into end time prophecy. Another type of end time apostasy is that of John Hagee with his extremist Jewish Supremacy and honoring of national, physical Israel above spiritual Israel. Now in 2007 Hagee has compromised the Gospel even more to say Christ did not come to earth to be the Messiah, and the Jews did not reject him because he never offered to be the Messiah. Hagee and his followers do get into end time prophecy a bit, but they distort it to fit their theology.
The Infiltration of Rick Warren's Networking Church
The concept of using the networking of many groups to bring about spiritual and cultural change was developed by the New Age leader Marilynn Ferguson in her 1980 book The Aquarian Conspiracy, which was under the influence of Professor Willis Harman working for the English elite Tavistock Institute. Rick Warren took up networking as a way of bringing about change in Christianity..
Several people who have been identified as New Age Occultists have either worked with Rick Warren or have been endorsed by him. Ken Blanchard, who Christian critics of Rick Warren say is a New Ager, worked with Rick Warren on his PEACE Plan. Blanchard was to help Rick Warren train many people around the world to be "servant leaders" who would "lead like Jesus."
Remember that Bernie Siegal, a doctor, talks with demon spirits. But in Chapter Three of The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren endorses Bernie Siegal by citing from Siegal's 1988 book, Love, Medicine and Miracles.
Leonald Sweet is clearly a New Age Occult theologian whose book was endorsed by Rick Warren. In his book Quantum Spirituality Leonard Sweet says "...Jesus is God's most sublime manifestation of energy matter." This is a little vague, but Sweet could be saying something like the Third and Fourth century gnostics taught, that the "Christ" is an aeon, a creation of the Eternal father. Sweet is said to write in a positive way about Sigmund Freud, Carl Rogers and Alvin Toffler, all change agents in their times.
Willis Harman, the change agent who worked for the Tavistock Institute while he was head of the Stanford Research Institute of Stanford University, was an influence on Leonard Sweet. In Quantum Spirituality, Sweet says Willis Harman was among those "...who have taught me how to catch the tail winds of energies whoosing from new spiritual jet streams...' The "energies whoosing from new spititual jet streams" is the New Age Occult movement.
Leonard Sweet teaches that the Christian Church must change from the inside out to accommodate to "Postmodernism." He says that Modernism gave Christianity a "preferred status" as "chaplain" to society and culture. But under Postmodernism" the Church no longer has a "home- court advantage." Postmodernism works against accepting the Bible teachings as truth.
We are in a Postmodern culture which leads people to reject the Bible's messages as truth more than did earlier Western cultures since the Reformation. But this gives the Remnant of Israel, the small Christian Remnant, an opportunity to stand for and proclaim the truths of Scripture. We can do this, with the help of the Holy Spirit, while the majority in the Churches follow various false doctrines, including that of John Hagee and Rick Warren's networking Church into greater apostasy.
Here is more on Rick Warren and his apostasy and involvement with New Age Occultists:
For one thing, Rick Warren has made use of marketing techniques in growing his ministry. Warren has also used the dialectic in small group settings, an attitude change procedure promoted by the British elite outfit, Tavistock Institute and developed by the National Training Labs, several psychologists and the encounter group movement. The dialectic as a procedure for changing beliefs, attitudes and behavior in small groups is deceptive, and for this reason alone should not be used by Christians.
Sandy Simpson says of Rick Warren's Networking Church that "The Hegelian Dialectic is used in concert with praxis (known as "diaprax") to brainwash an entiregeneration into creating a new hybrid Christianity. This new religion is full of Eastern mysticism and Gnosticism, while systematically redefining the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Apostles and Prophets within a subjectivist, existentialist world view...To achieve this end, any teaching and practices of biblical churches of Thesis/Antithesis (the Hegelian Dialectic). Orthodox biblicalChristianity and its doctrines, the Thesis, are presented as being stodgy, boring, misspent energy, misapplied methodology, and frankly, evil. The new Antithesis is then presented, excesses pulled randomly out of the hat of modern culture while being careful to sound "balanced" in presenting those antithetical excesses as if nothing iswritten in stone and things are in a constant state of flux." See http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/emergingdiaprax.html
By the way, the concept of "networking" of many groups with each other was suggested by the New Age Occult leader Marilyn Ferguson in The Aquarian Conspiracy, 1980. She taught that networking is "a tool of transformation." On page 214 of Aquarian Conspiracy she says ""Networks are the strategy by which small groups can transform an entire society."
There are many articles on the Internet critical of Rick Warren because of his friendship with people who are said to hold New Age Occult beliefs. Rick Warren is apparently still in the Southern Baptist organization, and is a Christian celebrity and well known leader of the Emerging or Networking Church. Several writers have pointed out the influence of Robert Schuller on Rick Warren. For example, on
http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/warrenandschuller.htm they say "Rick Warren admits that Robert Schuller...had a great influence upon him. A Man who believes it is wrong to call people sinners, a man who will not try to convert people of different religions influenced Rick Warren."
On the same web site they quote Robert Schuller as saying "The most effective mantras employ the "M" sound. You can get the feel of repeating the words, "I am, I am," many times over...Transcendental Mediation or TM...is not a religion nor is it necessarily anti- Christian." From: Peace of Mind Through Possibilty Thinking, pp. 131- 132, Robert Schuller.
Rick Warren's major professor or advisor at Fuller Theological Seinary in Califrnia was C. Peter Wagner. Richard Duane Warren's doctors's dissertation at Fuller Theological Semnary, New Churches For A New Generation: Church Planting To Reach Baby Boomers, 1993, was done under C. Peter Wagner.
On http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/Psychology/vine/vineyard.htm
they say C. Peter Wagner "... has long been recognized as an authority in both world missions and church growth. He was drawn towards signs and wonders by observing that church growth was most rapid among the Pentecostal and charismatic ranks..." This is the guy who was Rick Warren's advisor at Fuller.
There are web sites that claim C. Peter Wagner is under some influence from the Latter Rain movement of about 1948 to 1952. For example, at http://www.apologeticsindex.org/l39.html they say that the leaders of the Latter Rain movement were Franklin Hall, William Branham, George Warnock, John Robert Stevens...Elements of Latter Rain treachings are today being aught within certain... revival movements...the movements doctrines are taught and supported by a wide range of controversial teachers. They include Rick Joyner, C. Peter Wagner, Paul Cain, Cindy Jacobs, Bill Hamon."
C. Peter Wagner says "Pentecostal theologians have made the helpful suggestion of distinguishing the logos word of God from the rhema word of God...The rhema is regarded as a more immediate word from God which we do not find in the 66 books of the Bible. This is from: Engaging the Enemy, by C. Peter Wagner, 1991, pp 15-16, aa www.wrs.edu/journals/jour298/engaging.html
At the Latter Rain Page on http://latter-rain.com/ltrain/rhema.htm
Jay says "A church in order will have the Rhema word of God having complete control over the service. The Rhema in the congregation is the spirit of prophecy, the word of knowledge, tongues and interpretation, the pastor speaking as if an oracle from God himself. It is our responsibility in the five-fold ministry to encourage the release of the Rhema word and firmly ground it in the Logos word so that the congregation is truly in order and the Holy Spirit is in full control."
It looks like the Latter Rain people have taken Rhema to mean an utterance by the Holy Spirit to an individual or a congregation, and in so doing have distinguished it from Logos. While the Logos word to them seems to mean only the written word in the Bible, the Rhema word seems to them to mean an utterance that God the Holy Spirit speaks to a Christian directly. While the Latter Rain web site above says the Rhema word should be grounded in the Logos, the distinction some of the Charismatics have made between Logos and Rhema opens the door to their belief in extra-Biblical revelations from God, that "God told me this, and God told me that." The spirit they think is "God" may not be the real God at all.
It is not necessary to go into a study of the use of Logos verses Rhema in the New Testament. Strong's definitions for the two words do not show a clear difference in meaning. Logos, number 3056, is said to mean "something said (including the thought); by impl. a topic, also reasoning, by extension, a computation...the Divine Expression ( i.e., Christ)...communication...doctrine...treatise, utterance, word..."
Rhema, number 4487, according to Strong's, means "an utterance (individ., collect., or spec); by impl. a matter or topic (espec. of narration, command or dispute...saying, word." So, C. Peter Wagner, one of the mentors of Rick Warren, was into the Charismatic extra-Biblical revelations from God mind set and also into a form of Christian dominionism. The strange use of the Greek word Rhema to justify some kind of mystical experiencing and direct word from God may have been one doorway that opened for Rick Warren into the New Age Occult, whose leaders communicate with "entities" claiming to be "God" or "Jesus" all the time.
