"Against Oligarchy, by Webster G. Tarpley, 1970-1996. (See Links Page for source reference.) Tarpley found the missing thread for which so many of us have looked for so long, and he has exposed it. Today's oligarchical elite stem from the oligarchs who ruled Venice between approximately the 8th and the 17th centuries. They manufactured little (except for ships), but dominated trade within the whole Mediterranean world via both the seas and the overland route to the Far East. Their governance consisted of a carefully maintained group of oligarchical families who ran Venice for the benefit of the families. The families elected the state leaders from their own group, with the general Venetian population having nothing to say about governance. Their techniques were arbitrary and brutal. The slave trade and piracy were state-run enterprises. They grew exceedingly wealthy.
With the discovery of America and the ocean route to the Far East just before 1500, the Venetian oligarchs saw that Venice was misplaced to permit it to dominate the new world, so the oligarchs decided to move their center of operations to the European Atlantic coast, first to the Netherlands and then to England. They either created or exacerbated the Reformation and the religious wars that accompanied it, to keep Europe preoccupied while they consolidated their move from Venice. They engineered Henry VIII's Anne Boleyn affair, resulting finally in the elevation of Anne's daughter Elizabeth as Queen, and then surrounded Elizabeth with their own agents. After the 1688 Glorious Revolution, their own form of oligarchical governance was installed in England, where it remains to the present day. England was conquered, and without the English even knowing it.
They then created the Bank of England, which later served as the model for our own Federal Reserve System. Soon came the flooding of English Masonry throughout Europe, the creation of the Illuminati and the French Revolution, the wars of Lord Palmerston, the care and feeding of Karl Marx, the manipulations of King Edward VII leading to World War 1, and the conquest of Russia by the Bolsheviks. The story is absolutely fascinating. "
Note that above the dates 1970-1996 refer to the book Against Oligarchy. This is the same Webster Tarpley who has been active in the 911 Truth Movement, and is or was a follower of Lyndon LaRouche.
Although its not easy to find in the conventioal history books, usury and the Bank of England played an important role in setting off the American Revolution. The English government and Ol King George borrowed money from the Bank of England, which the government had to pay back with interest, or with usury. The British government tried to tax the American colonists to help pay the Bank of England. The colonists, being somewhat unlike Americans now, rebelled and started the American Revolution. It may be that the Bank of England tried to create branches in colonial America to loan money to the colonists to be paid back with usury. Being Christians, many in the colonies knew Biblocal law against usury and did not like this. I am not sure the Bank of England did set up branches to loan money to individual colonists, but apparently it did to colonial governments in America, which affected the people. Soon after the men in the State Militias and Continental Army defeated the Redcoats, the usury bankers in New England started foreclosing loans to Veterans who were now farmers. The result was Shay's Rebellion, which was based to a great extent on Old Testament moral law against usury. But King Washington and the government put down this citizen rebellion.
To put much emphasis upon the role of Bank of England's usury as the cause of the American Revolution is not politically correct and hasn't been for a while.
This is getting off the focus of the Christian Remnant. Bringing back the Biblical law against usury is part of bringing back the truth while the majority of Christians drift off into apostasy - and acceptance of usury. How many Christians use credit cards?
In the New Testament Christ threw out the money changers and their tables from the Temple (Matthew 21: 12 and John 2: 15). He was opposing the practice of cheating the people by unjust gain, that is of the richer elite cheating the common people of their money. The principle of Christ opposing unjust gain includes usury. The money changers were charging the people extra to exchange their foreign money for Jewish money to pay the temple tax, apparently with the knowledge of the Pharisees.
Though we do not find a discussion of usury in the New Testament, we cannot say that in principle Christ did not oppose usury. Bernard
