I went to vote first thing in the morning, there was already a long queue, (I would guess about 500 people), and it didn't really seem to move anywhere, but slowly we made our way forward.
After about an hour, I got to the front, got my identity verified, (twice), and I got to vote, (they left a mark on my thumb to make sure I wouldn't vote again), and it was all over.
The whole experience was quite nice, the weather was nice, the people were nice, I just didn't expect to wait that long in the queue. But I guess it was not that bad really, I should have taken a book :(. The other thing I didn't like is that, those of us at the back of the queue had no real idea of what was going on ahead, we kept sending someone up to double check that we were in fact moving at all.
The over 60 year old and people carrying children were allowed to jump the queue. So the wife took the younger daughter with her when she went to vote while I sat at home with the older one, but it still took her about one hour.
The counting has been ongoing most of the night, but there has not been any real results so far, (or real surprises). As predicted by most, the ANC looks to be firmly in control. They have lost a tiny bit of ground, but it does not amount to more than 1% or 2% overall.
But, it is still early in the counting day, I will update tonight when the final results should be in.
