8/21/2017 - Parenting Principles That You Should Know And Practice Everyday
As most parents know, there are many ways that you can be a positive role model for your children, however choosing the right approach can often be confusing. Should you take a dictatorial position, or raise your kids with a relaxed and kind modality? Being a positive parent, and a good role model, is a possibility for you if you follow these guidelines.
For decades experts have gone back and forth in regard to which type of parenting skill works the best and it seems the only place they can find common ground is to make sure that you have at least some interaction with your children.
It is important to always participate in your child's life because it is this interaction that allows them to go further than they could have if you had not been there. Many parents are so busy that they really don't have the time to spend with their child every day, though it needs to be done from time to time. Remember that, even if you're not sure what the best course of action to take with your kids may be, just being there and showing them you care is the most important part of being a parent. Children always pick up much of their behavior from watching their parents, as you are their first role models in life. Parents must, therefore, exhibit the kind of values they expect their children to take on. Some parents are inconsistent in this way -telling their kids not to do things that they do all the time. Telling your kids something only goes so far, but setting the right example makes a real difference. In everyday life, there are always going to be different rules for kids and adults, but what we're talking about here is fundamental values, where you should set a good example. So remember that the old saying that actions speak louder than words is true.
Try to avoid yelling at your kids, as this seldom has the effect that you want. Of course, we're all human, and sometimes when we lose our tempers, we're bound to raise our voices. There are consequences to taking bad decisions, and yelling at your children is definitely not a good one. If you yell too much, your kids won't even notice that you are yelling, which defeats the purpose. Kids learn by example, therefore, it is a good idea to not yell at your kids as they will learn this habit too. By speaking softly, it will force them to try to listen.
Although all of us have an innate ability within us be a good parent, it is a difficult thing to master. Although we have natural tendencies to want to do our best for our kids, we may often become distracted by our emotions, our temper, and the things that we want. It is our hope that the strategies presented in this article will help you build a more positive loving relationship with your kids.
