1/2/2001 - Fruit Trees Call For Proper Care
Posted in Unspecified

Inside the garden, fruit trees are an attractive feature and there is always the possibility of getting fruit in season. Throughout the spring, the empty branches of the winter develop into magical sticks that flourish and become filled with delicious fruits later on. I love talking about gardening almost as much as doing it. I especially love to cruise and talk with other gardeners. I had the chance to just that with Newcastle Cruises.

You will not need 'green fingers' to be able to successfully grow fruit trees in your garden. Simply achieving a few basic care requirements will keep your trees in a flourishing condition.

Starting With the Autumn to the Springtime

The bottom of fruit trees, especially saplings, need to be covered with sturdy netting material. This kind of solution prevents rats and rabbits from destroying the tree. All those hungry critters often try to feed from the tree during the winter, as their usual daily source of food is often limited during winter.

If the garden is getting plenty of snow, the trunks of young fruit trees in particular should be painted with a white latex paint diluted 50% with water. This is going to stop the trunk heating up in the rays of reflected sunlight and resulting in damage.. A fruit tree can be at risk from cold winds that can cause cracks in tender bark. These cracks can create ideal hiding places for insects that may proceed to damage your tree.

In the early spring, on a calm day with little wind and the temperature 4 degrees C minimum, it's a good chance to clean up your tree. Provide them with a pleasant shape while using garden shears. Make some incisions to open the crown of the tree and to fix the horizontal limbs from about 10 to 15 centimeters.

Cleanly cut away any branches that seem to be unhealthy or old and trim any shoots straight after they have appeared. The tree branches that grow out horizontally should be left uncut as you will be wanting these to bear fruit. Use special equipment to check the heights of the trees and then cut the vertical branches to have the same length as the horizontal ones. This is going to secure the maximum return of fruit.

Make sure to irrigate these trees. If you'd like healthy crops, you must water the trees to ensure that they grow strong and can withstand the harmful insects and the diseases, especially when the buds start to grow. The true secret to developing a hefty crop of fruit on your tree is to keep on watering.

Branches can be encouraged to grow straight by utilizing supports. Guarantee the horizontal tree branches don't shade each other and so not receive the most amount of light and bear more fruit. As soon as your tree or trees have reached their fourth year you can then look at improving their fruiting efficiency by opening up the branches. You can do this using a manually operated spreading instrument or you could attach one tree to another using ropes.

To grow into fruit, the bloom must be pollinated by insects specifically bees. You can make your trees generate more fruit by administering a special substance that will attract them, but use this only after the sun has gone down or in the early morning.
