Basil is a rather common herb and one that I have always been found of, here are some of the benifits of it

Medical

Treats stomach cramps, vomiting, fevers, colds, flu headache, whooping cough and menstral pains. Used to reduce stomach acids making a vaulable treatment for ulcer. Externally it can be used to draw out poision of insect bites. Has been used to eliminate worms from the intestines. The oil of basil leaves is applied directly to acne.

Magick

Protects from evil and negativity, aids in attracting and keeping love. Used in purification baths and in wealth and prosperity rituals. Carrying a basil leaf in your pocket will bring wealth and powdered basil sprinkled over your mates head while they sleep is said to eliminate infidelity from the marriage.
