The Pentagram is of course the most recgonizable, and most known of all the symbols of the Pagan belief system. The Pentagram, serves as almost a universoanl and uniting symbol for Paganisim, for nearly all branches of the Pagan religon hold the Pentagram as a sacred and powerful symbol. Wheather you are a Witch, Wiccan, Celtic/Traditional Pagan, etc... you are probaly familler with the Pentagram. It is a symbol that is seen not only as being sacred to the Goddess, but a symbol which offeres protection, and is an imporant tool in many rituals. So here is a little about the symbol.

The points of the star within the pentagram represent the 4 elements, and the 4 directions (Yes I know there are 5 points, I will get to that)
The upper left point of the star is Air (East): represents intellect, communication, knowlege, concentration, ability to knowand understand, to unlock secrets of the death, contact the angels, telepathy, memory and wisom, the hawk, raven, and eagle, prophecy, movement, karnma, and sleep.
The upper right point is Water(West): represents intuition, emoltions, the inner self, flowing movements, the pwoer to dare and clense all things, sympathy and love, relation, currents and tides of life, the dolphin, swan and crab, dreams and dream time.
The lower left is Earth (North): represents mystery and growth, fertility, material abundence, combined forces of nature and its bounty, brith and healing, bussiness, industry and possessions, the bear, the sage, and the wolf, conservations and nature.
The lower right is Fire (South): represents energy, purification, courage, the will to dare, creativity, unique self, sucess and refinement, the arts and transformation, the lion, phoenix, dragosn, loyalty, and force.
The 5th point, which tips the top of the pentagram is the spirit: yourself.
