10/18/2006 - Casting a Circle
The circle is a powerful symbol and can be an important tool in many rituals an in most invocations, not only does it offer protection to the caster/user from negeitivty energies and entities which might try to escape, but it also offers a way to help focus and concentrate the energies of the user. Here are a couple of methods for casting a circle.
The Witches Circle
- Light four candles just outside the circumfrance of the circle. These represent the four compass points: North, Easth, West, South which correspond to the four elements: Fire, Water, Air, Earth. The alter should be placed on the north side within the circle.
- Turn off any artificual lights
- Light the incense (which will be placed on the alter)
- The bowl of water and sword/anthame should be placed on the atler
- Begin at the nroth. Pointing the athame down to indicate the circumfrance of the circle, walk clockwise untill you reach the north again. As you walk say something like "Oh circle of power I conjure thee that thou may serve as a boundrary between this world and the world of the Mighty, that you shall preserve the power I raise in thee and serve to as a gaurdian and protector"
- Walking clockwise again from nroth to north sprinkle water around the circle
- Carry the burning censer around the circle
- Take up the north candle and carry it around the circle then replace it on the altar
- Holding the anthame, face east and say something like "Lords of the East, I summon thee to guard this circle and witness my rites" As you say this, draw a five-pointed star in the air using the anthame
- Repreat the prodecure, facing south, west, and last north ( and the circle is complete and ready for use)
Banishing the circle
Once the magick ritual is over it is nesscary to banish the circle. Do this starting at the East and say something like "Lords of the East, thank you for attending and protecting, farewell" As you say this trace the pentagram using the anthame, do this for West, South and last North.
After the circle is deconstructed it might also be a good idea to clense the area used and give thanks to the Gods/Goddess and spirits which were invoveked in the ritual preformed.
