There are several lucky days for collecting rainwater. The luckiest is St. Swithin's Day, July 15th for rain was said to start falling then, New Years Day, Midsummers Eve, All Hallows Eve, and May Eve are also lucky.

To ensure a year of health and beauty leave out a metal dish or bucket on the night of one of the these feast days and place a sprig of rosemary or evening primrose in it. Walk backwards from the vessel, and wish for a long and happy life. Say not a word more untill you go to bed then early in the morning go and fetch any water that has collected on the bowl or container. Drink a few drops and pat a little onto your face. You should be in excellent health, and blessed with good looks for the year to follow
