5/22/2011 - Hazen, Nevada fights for water
Posted in Unspecified

This is an ad revenue sharing blog.

I've started writing this blog about 5 times now. There's no beginning and no end in sight for Hazen residents. The government shut the water off to the Truckee canal back in Nov. 2010 to do repairs. After 6 months of residents suffering with no water, they finally re-opened the canal-NO repairs were ever started.

The canal breached in Fernley, Nevada destroying over 300 homes a few years ago. I understand the need for repairs to be done, but Hazen is losing ground as far as a township. TCID (Truckee Carson Irrigation District) and the BOR (Bureau of Reclamation) have made so many allegations into the "legal" aspects, that residents are now researching the right to have water.

Hazen has been recieving water for over 100 years. The government entities are also saying that Hazen was never a town (even though recent research said that Churchill County actually formed it).

Let's cut to the chase here...The BOR is saying that Hazen cannot receive any water because it doesn't meet quality standards. What the hell! The canal breached 3 years ago! Now is NOT a good time to bring up EPA standards. If that isn't enough...if you cannot prove your have a "right" to the water, you can't have it either. So, the BOR had a pipeline outlet welded shut so NO water can get the the residents. Isn't this right out of a horror story?

Hazen was established in 1905. The government will NOT provide any documents that have water deeds attached (recorded or not). It's like the whole history of Hazen water is just 'missing".

Now imagine all these residents who have homes out there...years of water-now NONE! Hands of Hope Food Bank is kind enough to hold a "Raise The Water" campaign throughout the end of May. We have had over 3,000 gallons of water donated to those residents whos wells have run dry while waiting for recharging.

If anyone out there has any water rights research knowledge, we desperately need your help. Through our own research team we have found several documents that prove that the government has broken the law in several areas. We are still in need of recorded document hunting though.

Hundreds of people are counting on that canal to have water in it! WE THE PEOPLE own the water, not the government! TCID and the BOR are just another obstacle that thinks they can control more than any agreement gives them the authority to do.

I have found the history of Hazen from the late 1800's into the early 1900's. Hazen had a school, post office, Southern Pacific Railroad, Palace Hotel, and much more. It just seems that Churchill County destroyed recorded documents, or they were lost in fires. Then again, the government doesn't seem to have any records of anything either!

The water war continues with extreme heat on the way. People cannot survive without water...

Thanks for letting me vent...I'm so tired of months of research and suffering...but so grateful for the people who are willing to stand up and fight for what is right.
