8/31/2008 - Labor Day Weekend

It's the end of summer. We have been busy with a weekend of wrapping up a painting project for the entire living space of our house. We finally got the "red wall" done, and it looks pretty impressive. I suppose we can start hosting fellowship desserts again now that the house is looking less like a project and more like a home. And the timing is good. Ministry responsibilities are picking up at this busier time of year, and I am in a good place, though I am more tired than usual after a summer marked with three weeks of vacation time.

Plans for the holiday tomorrow are to sit down and design the scaffold to erect over the entryway so that we can finish what we have started. We need to repair some wall cracks, and then repaint over the entryway. Once done, we will have completed a project we have spent most of this year at. We purchased a couple of furniture pieces on Friday night as well, completing the family room downstairs.

Zach has probably had the best time of all of us. His new Les Paul Special II has kept him occupied for hours on end in his room, and even now I am being treated to an impromptu mix of blues, jazz, and head-banging rock as he puts it through its paces. At one point this afternoon he was hugging the guitar, calling it his baby, and smiling uncontrollably! He got this to celebrate making jazz band in 6th grade! This should be passable for the next three years. It is nice enough to replace his uper-cheap Johnson starter guitar, yet inexpensive enough that I am not freaking out at the prospect of him bringing it back and forth to school each day!
